Interesting facts about the smell

Smell is one of the most underestimated senses, yet he is the true master of pampering the senses and evoking memories. What is worth knowing about smell and the power of smell?

Man in comparison to other species

Our noses are sensitive. And the sense of smell is of great importance to humans, but we fall quite pale in comparison with animals. For example, man has about 400 types of olfactory receptors, but a dog uses as many as 800 types and a rat uses more than 1100 of them. Although man does not belong to macrosomatic organisms, i.e. those whose survival and a large part of cognitive functions are based on smell, but the sense of smell is very important for him. In humans, olfactory molecules reach the receptors in the nasal epithelium and there, they are identified and the information is transmitted to the brain, which translates the stimulus into an appropriate reaction.

How much you need to be valued, he'll just find out...

People who have lost their sense of smell can see how important the sense of smell is to us. In many cases it ended in a serious mood reduction or even depression. Losing the sense of smell causes the loss of one of the greatest pleasures, i.e. the feeling of taste. In addition, a lack of sense of smell often significantly reduces the libido and pleasure of closeness. Not everyone knows that smell is one of the greatest but invisible seducers - it is the smell and the pheromones that attract us to each other and make our senses more excited. Smell is an invisible guide of man - even if we don't realize it, it allows us to accurately assess other people's emotions and reactions, and it is thanks to it that we can choose the perfect partner.

The Proust Phenomenon

The name of this phenomenon is inspired by a thread, quoted in the book: "Looking for lost time", Marcel Proust. It is about waves of childhood memories, which are activated by the smell of a cake - magdalene, which the hero associated with his youngest years. The Proust phenomenon proves the strong connection of memories with scents and the fact that scents are perfect carriers of our memory and are able to recall the detailed images and emotions we felt in the past. Scientists, in an article published in the journal "Neuron", confirm that memories based on the sense of smell are exceptionally clear and lasting. That it is not only worshipped theory, was found out by some who, passing someone on the street, suddenly felt the smell, associated with old love - then the wave of memories strikes with great force and allows to immediately recall the state and situations from the past.

The strength of fragrances is also confirmed by the growing number of people fascinated by the world of real, natural perfumes. Being aware of the power of fragrance and the fact that it can evoke certain emotions and perpetuate present moments - perfumes become more than just a nice scent. Connoisseurs of fragrance know that perfume can easily move us to a time and place, and bring back extraordinary images and memories. Perfume is simply a beautiful moment, closed in intricate blends. Whoever comes across a fragrance knows what strength it can have.
