Do not take Xanax if you are also taking antifungal medications like itraconazole or ketoconazole or if you have a history of allergic reaction to any benzodiazepines such as alprazolam, diazepam, lorazepam, Ativan, Klonopin, Restoril, Tranxene, Valium, Versed, etc.

Make sure to tell your doctor if you ever had any of the following conditions to make Xanax is safe for you:

  • drug or alcohol addiction
  • kidney or liver disease (especially alcoholic liver disease)
  • depression, mood problems, or suicidal thoughts or behavior
  • breathing problems such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) or sleep apnea (breathing that stops during sleep)

Pregnant women should not use alprazolam because it may harm an unborn baby. Women should not take this medicine during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Breastfeeding women should not use alprazolam as it can pass into breastmilk and harm an unborn baby.
