THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UNIQUE IPS AND SHARED IPSwe

When someone types within the address: www.yourdomain.com that name is translated into numbers (called an IP address) then the pc is directed thereto IP address which is that the internet site. Every internet site on the web is found not by its name but by its IP address.

You can reach a site by typing within the IP address alone which will take you on to the location. But note, not every single website has an IP address specifically allocated thereto . for instance, every single website on this server doesn't use different IP addresses.

So you would possibly see jonswebsite.com and janeswebsite.com using an equivalent IP address. Basically what happens is that when jonswebsite.com is resolved into the IP address, the person trying to find jonswebsite.com arrives at the server; the server then realizes that the person is trying to find jonswebsite.com and sends that page to the person requesting it.

Using quite one site on an IP address is named sharing IPs or a Shared IP address. If a site has its own IP address and shares it with nobody else, it's called a singular IP address.

You can always reach a site which features a unique IP address by using its IP address alone, but you cannot reach a site employing a shared IP address by typing within the IP address alone because once you type during a shared IP address you reach the server but the server doesn't know which site you would like because you haven't told it which name you would like.

One common reason for having a singular IP address is that you simply can only use SSL encryption on a singular IP address. so as for an individual to transmit sensitive data over the web sometimes, this data must be encrypted to stop someone from intercepting the knowledge. you'll only use this encryption (called SSL) when the online site has its own IP address (unique IP). It doesn't work on a shared IP.
