If you are interested in the newly released gamemode, Teamfight Tactics, you would enjoy reading this article. Through this guide, you will be able to learn more about the basics of the gamemode and how to improve your gameplay more.

Teamfight Tactics is a completely new spin on League of Legends, introducing the “Auto Battler” or “Auto Chess” genre to the otherwise known and loved game. Teamfight Tactics is Riot Games’ take on the blooming new genre, and it has been anticipated ever since Dota Auto Chess (DAC) was released, with many guide writers getting ready to make a guide or two for it. TFT is a free-for-all, 8 man, round-based drafting strategy game where players collect and combine powerful items and gather strong champions that they can then use in order to do battle with other players. The interesting part? There is no gameplay involved in the combat stage in Teamfight Tactics. That is where it completely deviates from the usual League of Legends gameplay, and what makes many players resort to guides in order to learn more about the gamemode. In this Teamfight Tactics guide, we will talk a little about how you can get started with this new fun and exciting gamemode, and what you should focus on in order to gain wins. We hope you enjoy reading the guide as much as we enjoyed making it!

Champions guide

So first, let us begin this Teamfight Tactics guide with the Champions guide, as they are arguably the most important part of the Teamfight Tactics experience. Currently, TFT has 50 champions, with Twisted Fate being added soon as the 51th. There are 5 important factors that separate champions within Teamfight Tactics that we felt should be mentioned in this guide:

1- Level (stars):

In Teamfight Tactics, Champions can be Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3. Units purchased from the store are always Level 1. Gathering 3 Level 1 units of the same champion, combines them to create a Level 2 (or 2 star) version of the same champion. This impacts the damage of their Skill, as well as their base stats. Gathering 3 Level 2 units of the same champion, combines them to create a Level 3 (or 3 star) version of the same champion. This is the highest level a unit can reach, giving them their highest possible base stats and Skill damage.

2- Base stats:

Stats such as Health, Base damage, Base mana are different from one unit to the next in Teamfight Tactics. This design allows some form of unique strengths and weaknesses between different Champions, although it is more subtle than the rest of the points on this list. The only way to increase a unit’s base stats is through leveling it up.

3- Skill:

Every unit in Teamfight Tactics has a “Skill” or “Ability” or “Ultimate”, which is unique to them and has a specific effect. They are usually some form or derivative of one of the Champion’s abilities in standard League of Legends. Most cost Mana, some are Passive (example: Vayne). Some deal damage, some apply crowd control, and others might be a self heal or an ability that heals a different unit. Skills can be made stronger in numerous ways, such as leveling the unit up or having the Sorcerer class buff applied, or using spell empowering items.

4- Synergy:

All Champions in the game have at least one “Origin” and one “Class”, with a few exceptions that have more. Having multiple unique Champions on your field that share the same “Origin” or the same “Class” will apply a specific bonus/buff based on this particular Origin/Class. Currently, the game has 13 different Origins and 10 different Classes. It is undeniable that unit synergies are an imperative aspect to truly playing Teamfight Tactics at the highest levels.

5- Cost:

Units can cost from 1 gold to 5 gold. A unit’s cost usually affects their availability/rarity in the store, with 1 gold being the most common and 5 gold being the most rare. Also, base stats and skill power usually scale upwards with unit cost as well, especially considering most high cost units are very difficult to level up due to their rarity in the Teamfight Tactics store.

Teamfight Tactics Items

Next in our Teamfight Tactics guide, we will talk briefly about items. Items in TFT are obtainable from PvE (player vs. minions/camps “environment”) rounds, as well as the Shared draft (Carousel) rounds. They are randomized, and almost always are component drops. Any 2 components can be combined to create a stronger item that has a special effect. Any given unit can carry up to 3 completed items. Components can be combined by “giving” (dragging) them to a unit. Selling a unit that has an item or a component will return the item/component to you again for placement on a different unit. There are a total of 36 possible unique item combinations at the moment in Teamfight Tactics, with 8 unique component items.

Teamfight Tactics Little Legends

Continuing in our Teamfight Tactics guide, we will now talk a little about Little Legends. They are these adorable little characters that represent the players in TFT. They were conceptualized and added by Riot specifically for Teamfight Tactics. You can move, emote, dance, etc. using your Little Legend. There are many different Little Legends in Teamfight Tactics that you can use, depending on the ones available to you.

Experience/Levels guide

Let’s talk about experience/levels now, as it is a very crucial part of our Teamfight Tactics guide. Basically, in Teamfight Tactics your Little Legend has an experience bar as well as a level. This level determines how many units you can have on the board at once. You gain 2 experience points after every single round, and you can purchase 4 experience points for 4 gold at any time in the game. Leveling up is important in order to grow the size of your army. Your level also impacts the champions you get in the store, as being higher level reduces the chance of getting low cost units and increases the chance of getting high cost ones. Picking the correct time to level up, as well as the right balance between investing in units vs. investing in experience is one of the most difficult but also most important skills in TFT, so we had to include it in our Teamfight Tactics guide. The maximum level is level 9.

Gold guide

One of the more technical aspects of this Teamfight Tactics guide is gold. Simply put, gold is the resource you use in a game of Teamfight Tactics in order to recruit units, as well as refresh your store and purchase experience points in order to level up and grow the size of your army. You gain gold in many ways, and in this Teamfight Tactics guide we will try our best to explain them. First, you gain a fixed amount of gold after every round in a Teamfight Tactics game. Additionally, you gain some incremental bonus gold if you are on a winning/losing streak. You also gain “interest gold”, which is 1 bonus gold per round for every 10 gold you are holding at the start of it (capped at 50 gold, for an extra 5 gold per round). You can also sell units to regain gold. Also, whenever you win a PvP round, you gain an extra 1 gold. Finding the proper balance between saving gold for interest gain (also known as “economy” play or growing your economy), and spending your gold on strong units in order to increase your win rate, is pivotal and is one of the factors that will decide your skill level in Teamfight Tactics.

Champion store guide

Finally, to wrap up this Teamfight Tactics guide, let us talk about the champion store, which ties all of the previous points together. In simple terms, the Teamfight Tactics champion store gives you 5 units at a time that you can choose either to leave or to buy. The pool of champions that are presented in the TFT champion store is shared by all 8 players, which means if a champion is purchased multiple times by other players, it becomes less and less likely that you will get that champion. This is why trying to hit a 2 or 3 star unit that someone else has already leveled to 2 or 3 is extremely difficult. Additionally, the store offerings change at the start of every round. You can refresh the store offerings at any time for a cost of 2 gold. Many TFT players fall into the trap of refreshing multiple times and burning gold on that, but it must be understood that gold spent on refreshing does not give you immediate power in your game of Teamfight Tactics for the gold spent, which is why it is currently being considered better to adapt to the store offerings that you get and spend the least amount of gold possible on store refreshes.

After reading this Teamfight Tactics guide, you should have a lot more insight on how TFT works and what you should be looking out for and paying attention to. Ranked mode will soon be added to Teamfight Tactics, and when it is, it is very likely that Pro Boosting will start providing rank boosting for Teamfight Tactics to its customers with guides on how to improve, so be on the lookout for that if you are interested in more guides and climbing the ladder in Teamfight Tactics with ease. We hope you have learned a lot by reading this guide and in the future there will be more insightful articles/guides being posted here, including potentially more Teamfight Tactics content/guides so stay tuned and thank you for your patient reading of this guide!
