What better way to draw attention to Facebook’s political ad policy and the damage it can cause than to lie in an advertisement about its founder?

That’s what Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) planned when an ad created by her presidential campaign went live Saturday, claiming Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg had endorsed Donald Trump for the presidency in the 2020 election.

Facebook changed their ads policy to allow politicians to run ads with known lies—explicitly turning the platform into a disinformation-for-profit machine.

Facebook holds incredible power to affect elections and our national debate.

Once again, we’re seeing Facebook throw its hands up to battling misinformation in the political discourse, because when profit comes up against protecting democracy, Facebook chooses profit.
