ABC has canceled hit single-camera sitcom Fresh Off the Boat, meaning it won’t be back for a seventh season.
The series will get a proper series finale in February with a 1-hour final episode, however, and there’s the potential for a spinoff series.
Fresh Off the Boat debuted in 2015 and has largely been praised by critics.
News of the cancellation comes from Variety, which reports that ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke confirmed the news and praised Fresh Off the Boat as ‘an unforgettable series.’ Though these sorts of cancellation announcements sometimes come ahead of a final season, it seems ABC has decided not to proceed with that, meaning the current sixth season will be its last.
There’s good news for fans of the series, however — it looks like ABC is moving forward with a spinoff show.
News of this spinoff first surfaced in latest October in a report from Variety, which now claims that a new episode for the sixth season will be recorded later this month.
