As we roll into a new decade, we must be prepared for the advances and the threats that come as a result of technological advancement. The last decade saw an exponential rise in technological advancement including the development of the cloud, connected devices, the rise of AI and machine learning and many other developments that have shrunk the world and brought people closer. But with this development has arisen many security risks and threats that will need to be dealt with. As there is an increase in cyber attacks daily on organizations and critical governmental installations, there is a need for updated cybersecurity training programs and IT cybersecurity training that will help organizations, employees and all stakeholders to be prepared to deal with such attacks and to be able to safeguard important and critical data.

Experts believe that 2020 will see an increase in the number of phishing attacks and that organizations must step up their security mechanisms to be able to deal properly with these attacks. As technology advances, it becomes much easier to clone official emails and people, and organizations and employees can fall for such mails if they are not aware of the trends and have not received appropriate IT security training that has been updated for 2020. Phishing attacks cause the industry to lose millions if not billions in revenue. Hackers use phishing attacks in order to gain access to critical data in organizations such as login credentials, financial information, social security numbers and so forth, and get them onto the dark web marketplace, and sold for financial gain. These attacks can sometimes be sponsored by governmental agencies engaged in cyber-terrorism with another country.

In 2020, Hackers are predicted to focus their attention more on small and medium-sized organizations, wherein it is very difficult to spend a lot of money hiring skilled professionals to take care of the security apparatus. Such organizations must take care to provide the employees with sufficient IT cybersecurity training in 2020, as they are very vulnerable to such attacks.

For instance, the whole idea of connected printing solutions within such small and medium-sized organizations can be an easy entry point for hackers to exploit and to gain access to the servers of that particular organization. As such, it is very important that these organizations understand how to properly implement security protocols for such solutions and train their employees in properly using such services.

Another big trend that needs to be understood in 2020 is the vulnerability of account passwords, and more specifically, users who re-use passwords across different services. This is such a huge vulnerability and needs to be plugged up this year. Organizations must impart sufficient awareness to the employees regarding the same and must ensure that they are trained well enough to use secure passwords, and also not reuse the same password across multiple services.

Critical services like healthcare, nuclear installations, banking, utilities and so on are going to be targeted more often in 2020, and employees at such organizations need to get updated security information at IT cybersecurity training.
