Top 7 advantages of a bread maker over traditional methods

There are several advantages of a bread maker over traditional bread making and buying your loaves pre-packed in a supermarket. It is often cheaper. You have more control of what you are getting and what goes into it and it tastes so much better as well.

I got my bread maker after my sister got hers. After listening to her talk about it I was really impressed with the ease of bread making in a machine compared to the traditional method. It was a definite advantage. I had been making bread by hand and as not the tidiest of cooks. I made a bit of a mess.

She worked it all out and a loaf of bread made in a bread maker was a lot cheaper than just buying it. And the quality was a lot better. That was one of the reasons I wanted to make my own bread in the first place.

The 7 Advantages of a Bread Maker Machine I Have Found

I have found several advantages to making my own bread with a bread maker.  Below they are listed.

1.  It is Cheaper to Use a Bread Maker than to Buy Your Bread in a Supermarket

Making bread using the bread maker is really cheap about 30p-50p per plain loaf made including ingredients and the running of the machine.  For this, you get a much better quality loaf of bread than if you bought your bread in the supermarket.  Of course, you can get deals and end of day offers of cheap bread if you time it right.

2. There are Easily Seen Health Benefits

When you make your own bread whether using a bread maker or a cooker you have much more control of the ingredients that go into it than if you buy in a supermarket.Te Ingredients for a plain white loaf you make yourself would be:

Strong white bread flour, salt, sugar, butter or oil, yeast and warm water.

When you buy a pre-packed loaf from the supermarket it often has to travel so it is not so fresh.  Things are added to it to keep it fresher.

The ingredients of a shop bought pre-wrapped loaf (Note these are the ingredients are of a specific loaf others may be different)

Wheat Flour with Calcium, Iron, Thiamin (B1), Niacin (B3) Water, Seed Mix (13%), Malted Barley Flour, Yeast, Vegetable Oil, Sugar and Salt, Wheat Gluten,

And then the additives:

Emulsifiers: E471, E472e, E481, Soya Flour, Preservative: Flour Treatment Agent: Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Calcium Propionate (added to inhibit mould growth)

3.  The Bread Machine is Easy to Use

The machines themselves are very easy to use.  You just have to be precise in your measurements.

4.  It is Much Easier to Make Bread

I found it a lot easier to make bread this way.  You just measure out and pop the ingredients into the machine.

No messy mixing or kneading.  Although I admit I find the actual kneading therapeutic.

Accessibility Note: If you have and difficulty with your muscles making bread this way is less of a strain on your muscles.

5. Cleaner than Traditional Bread Making

As I say, little or no mess to clean up compared to flour getting everywhere and mixing bowls.  Of course, you still have the bread maker insert to clean.

6. The Quality and Superior Taste of the Bread

OMG!! The taste – faint.  There is nothing quite like pulling off a piece of freshly baked bread, still warm and eating it.  So soft, so fluffy and so fresh it just dissolves in your mouth.

7. The Jam Making Advantage

An added advantage is sometimes you can make jam in your bread maker as well.

Some Disadvantages to Consider As Well

  1. The main disadvantages are that it doesn’t really work out cheaper because everyone likes the bread more so it goes more quickly – You have been warned!
  2. The other is you have to just it yourself.  My sister did get a slicer buy I cut mine by hand so much chunkier “slices”.
  3. And of course. you have to store the machine when not in use which is a pain if you are short on space.
  4. You are limited to the shape of the bread maker" alt="mini loaf of bread" width="540" height="245" data-ezsrc="http://www.whiteriverkitchens.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/mini-loaf-e1476777947274.jpg" />

So is A Bread Maker Worth it?

The advantages of using a bread maker to make your bread far outweigh the disadvantages which are fairly minor in comparison.  I admit I felt as though I was cheating for a while, but I got over it.  Besides, who says you can’t do both. Sometimes you might want rolls or other shaped bread.
