Online toy merchants will be big in 2020. Digital Commerce 360 believes it is the fastest growing category online, with U.S. retailers of toys and hobbies products expected to increase ecommerce sales by 195% in 2020. This is an increase from the 10.9% estimated by Digital Commerce 360 last year.

When the coronavirus pandemic spread across the U.S. in March and many states and municipalities implemented stay-at-home orders, toys, games, puzzles, and crafts became very popular. These in-demand products were so popular that consumers flocked to the internet to buy them. This was while schools, libraries, museums and other places were closed.

According to Rakuten Rewards which collected data from 3,500 merchants who sell toys via Rakuten.com, online toy sales increased 175% in April and 180% in May. Rakuten reported that online sales increased by 85% in October and 54% to 85% in September.

FatBrainToys LLC (No. 780 in the 2020 Digital Commerce 360 TOP 1000 and Exploding Kittens - expect strong growth during the holiday season.

Mark Carson, co-founder of Fat Brain Toys, says that historically, around 60% of our business has been in the November-December period.
