Here Are Easy Ways to Troubleshoot AC Issues

In summers, we totally rely on our AC unit to keep us cool and comfortable in the house. So, it is natural to get upset once the AC stops functioning. However, keep in mind that not every time your Central Air Conditioner in Ottawa stops functioning is the result of significant damages within. Sometimes, even small problems such as water leaks can cause the problem.

Even though it is important to call the professionals to get the unit serviced, but if the issue pops overnight, your first instinct must be acting on the problem on your own. In those situations, the following tips can help to troubleshoot the issue and regain comfortable temperatures indoors.

1- Start with the thermostat: Sometimes, the issue may not at all be with your AC unit but the thermostat, especially if you own a smart, programmable thermostat. These thermostat models tend to turn on and off automatically at pre-set times.

So, double-check the thermostat to check if it is working properly or not. Many digital thermostats have batteries in them; change them to see if that fixes the problem or not.

2- Inspect the circuit breakers: If there isn’t any issue with the thermostat, then check the circuit breaker of your AC next. Sometimes unexpected loads can trip the circuit, resulting in the unit shutting off completely.

If the tripped circuit is an issue, then try setting it to see if that fixes the issue or not. If the breakers continue tripping, you might require calling an electrician to check the root of the cause.

3- Inspect the air filters: If the AC isn’t cooling the house properly and you notice leaking water around the unit, then that could be a result of jammed air filters.

A dirty or clogged air filter can cause the unit to work harder, resulting in higher energy bills, higher temperatures and frozen units.

Remove the air filters and hold them up to the light. If the light isn’t passing through the filter screen, then it is time to change the air filter.

4- Check all the air vents: If your AC is leaking, shutting down, freezing or struggling to work, then take a quick walk around your house to ensure all the vents are open and not blocked. Also, check the rooms where you don’t expect cooling.

The vents can either let the cool air out or take the air back inside and return it to the vent. If the returns and air vent is blocked due to items like a curtain, decorations, etc., then ensure to clear the blockage.

Over to you

Well, there you have it. These are some impressive ways of troubleshooting the issues with your Air Conditioner in Ottawa if the issues occur at ungodly hours.
