Poor indoor air quality is a problem for many homes throughout the world. Indoor air quality is important for a variety of reasons, but the biggest being your health. That is why it's important to recognize when indoor air quality isn't at its best. But, what are some of the signs to look out for? What should you do if you find that your home has been compromised and your air quality isn't the greatest? Let's go over some of the top signs of indoor air quality issues.

Are You Sneezing and Coughing Often?

Indoor air quality can include a buildup of dust, pollen, and other allergens. It can also include mold. All of these things resonate and culminate into congestion and other allergy symptoms like sneezing and coughing. If you find yourself constantly having fits of sneezing and coughing, it could be a sign that the IAQ is not significant in your home. Talking with your physician about being constantly sick or having these symptoms can uncover the root cause. No, you might not need to be using quite so much hand sanitizer, but look closer at what is circulating in your home's air.

Dust Lined Along Walls

An overly dusty home can also signal a problem with indoor air quality. Your vents may be dirty and are circulating dust and bacteria throughout your home. These will often stick to floorboards and anywhere else. You may also notice that your fan blades are often a mess with dust. A little bit of dust is normal, but if you constantly have to pull out the feather duster, it may be worthwhile to investigate.

Hot and Cold Spots

Having hot and cold spots in your home can also be a sign of an indoor air quality problem. This could be an issue with your ventilation, allowing air to not flow properly. If you are having issues with it being drafty in some places, it may be worthwhile to check into possible signs.

What Can You Do?

There are a variety of things you can do to improve your indoor air quality—most of these start with having testing done. A popular option is Mold Testing. Mold can be a horrible problem and be difficult to eliminate once it grows to a certain point. Staying on top of your indoor air quality can ensure the health of you and your family. If you're concerned that your home has an exposure to mold or you're having bouts of feeling sick for no explainable reason, it could be the IAQ.
