You can use a backup to copy and store data from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You can utilize a backup to transfer your data to a new device if you change your smartphone. You're certainly aware of the importance of backing up your data, and there are a variety of backup methods available for Mac.

But you should also back up your iPhone or iPad. While you may not have many documents on these devices that aren't saved on a cloud server—which you can readily access if needed—you are likely to have images and videos that could be lost if you don't back them up. Furthermore, re-creating the configuration of your iOS device can take a long time; re-downloading all of your apps, entering your user information, and organizing them on home screens can be a time-consuming procedure.

It's simple to restore your iOS device from an existing backup if you encounter a problem. However, if you haven't backed up your iOS device yet and want to be prepared, you may be asking whether you should back it up to iCloud or your computer.

Since MacOS Catalina, you can back up your iOS device in the Finder if you use a Mac. If you're using Windows or an older version of MacOS than Catalina, you'll need to back it up in iTunes. Although they are two different programs, the backup interface is identical.
