How marine parks benefit people?

Many countries have marine protected areas and so do we. We should be proud of it and try to take a second to realize how important these reserves are. Talk about the Fathom five national marine part or the Tobermory national park, they teach us so many things. By preserving nature and the natural elements, we are kind of giving things back to society. And we should. Taking our kids to such areas will only encourage them to save their own world for the better.

Such marine protected areas have been a topic of discussion for so long. There are certain marine spaces in the world, which restrict human intervention and this is happening only because we all want to save these animals for life. Some of the species are under threat due to some human activities and they need to be saved. The idea of marine parks is one way towards better ocean management. This is one of the reasons the world supports this idea and such marine parks have been opened in various parts of the world.

Not every marine park is created in the same way, some might allow fishing and controlled human activities and some might not. Some parks are small and some are large, some are connected while some stand-alone. When they were well-planned, well-executed, marine parks help in feeding communities, protecting jobs, and boosting the biodiversity in the ocean. Some of the reasons why marine parks are great for us and why you should be respecting Fathom Five National Marine Park are:

1. Spillover effects – The benefits of marine parks will go beyond just protecting the boundaries. When they are planned well, marine parks can as homes for endangered species. These species also use the protected areas to produce, feed or congregate. They might or might not stick around for long and that is called the spillover effect.

2. They boost alternative livelihood – conserving biodiversity can be far more profitable than actually exploiting it. There are chances to create an extractive reserve and this way, we can create an alternative livelihood for the species.

3. Coastal parks protection – for various coastal communities, the value of a mangrove or coral reef far exceeds the value of the fish that live there or the wood present. This kind of ecosystem protects coastal homes against floods and storms, the kind that will be far more disastrous as the climate changes. Coral reefs and mangroves both are beneficial for the human environment.

With such marine parks around, the local communities get better access to crossing the physical boundaries. We know it is tough for the communities or countries to protect the limited resources, but with such parks, it is possible.
