Sanjay Kapoor, the President of AICF or All India Chess Federation, along with Bharat Singh, the Secretary of the Federation, announced plans of setting up an all-inclusive, first-its-kind residential National Chess Academy at KIIT and even at KISS. This unanimous decision in this context was made at the Central and General Council Meetings of the AICF conducted at Jaipur in Rajasthan on September 24, 2021. Initially, the admission intake potential of the Academy has been fixed at 100 students who will get on to Masters and Grand Masters once they complete proper training and education.

Dr. Achyuta Samanta, along with the other members at KIIT & KISS, has long been working towards promoting Chess and its players financially right from the grass-root level for the full-fledged growth of the game and even its players. Astonishingly, a Chess player from the state of Odisha has actually gained popularity on a universal scale but by spending 26 lakhs only on training, preparation and promotion. For the last couple of decades, both KISS & KIIT have been putting the best of efforts into organising international and regional level Chess Meets such as KIIT International Chess Festival; World Junior Chess; National Open Rapid Chess; FIDE Trainers Seminar; National Open Blitz Chess, National Premiere Chess Championship and Asian Cities Chess.

By doing so, KIIT has been successful in propelling the stature and the significance of Indian Chess to the international level. Apart from this, Chess has also been included in the School Curriculum for the very first time in 2011 in both KISS and KIIT. Since then, there has been no interference or problem in imparting Chess education to the students.

Dr. Samanta expressed his delight by saying that the evolution of a full-fledged Chess Academy is definitely a historic initiative. This landmark initiative is the fruit of the efforts of Bharat Singh Chouhan and Sanjay Kapoor, and Dr. Samanta thanked both of them for their efforts. He even thanked the President of the Odisha Chess Association, Mr Ranjan Mohanty, who is also the newly elected Joint Secretary of the All Indian Chess Federation. Dr. Samanta was also thankful to IM Shekhar Sahoo and Debabrata Bhatta, Secretary.

Dr. Samanta further said that the cooperation of the Odisha Chess Association has led to a mass appeal about the game not just in Odisha but even across the country. It was this coordination that led to the establishment of the Chess Academy at KISS and KIIT. It has been 12 years since KISS and KIIT have been putting in massive efforts for the popularisation of the game. It is only today that the relentless and undying endeavour of these organisations has brought in good dividends and also helped the game of Chess earn its due recognition.

Dr. Samanta was happy with the efforts of both the educational institutions that less to the development of a Chess Academy that would not just benefit the students but would also bring national and international fame. The efforts of the establishments are worth it now.
