Kombucha is a fermented, light, green, or black tea powder drink usually consumed for its supposed health benefits. In some cases, the drink is also called kombucha tea for the reason that it is sometimes described as having the same flavor and appearance as the beverage's culture. Sometimes added fruit, spices or other flavorings are also common. One type of producer, however, does add sugar to their tea blends which can result in a richer, darker color, as well as an increased after taste.
Sometimes the drink is also called simply kombucha tea to differentiate it from its traditional culture of yeast and bacteria. Often fruit, spices, or other flavorings have been added for additional taste. The tea originated in and is popular in Jamaica, but is becoming more popular throughout the world due to the abundance of local and organic ingredients found there.
