What is an Annual Art Competition?

Besides sending unprofessional artwork, one of the major reasons why an artwork doesn’t get selected in an annual art competition is due to the fact that most people do not pay attention to the guidelines. Here are some tips to help you get accepted and perhaps even go on to win the competition:

Create a checklist

Create a list of the things that you are supposed to include in your submission. Ensure that you are well aware of the deadline as well. Use computer software so that you can have a duplicate copy if something happens and the entry gets deleted accidentally prior to your submission.

Do your research

If there is a brochure, read it thoroughly. This will help ensure that you comprehend everything that is necessary and what you are actually agreeing to. Preferably, look into the artwork that has been entered already or the artwork from former competitions to get an idea of the type of work that has been selected and liked by the jurors. Take a look at the jurors to know their background and specialty.

Comprehend the theme

Make sure that your work of art applies to the theme of the annual art competition. While competition and art themes are subjective, you will have a good chance of getting selected if the artwork has a clear connection to the art theme. If there is no actual connection, but you have a strong feeling that your artwork still relates to the theme somehow, then you can make your case for it in the artist statement or the art title. Jurors often take a look at them if they have a liking for the entry but still have doubts regarding the relevance to the theme.

Conclusion

Write or call to clarify doubts about the theme or criteria of the annual art competition. It is often not an inconvenience and it is always better to enquire than to make a mistake. Whilst there might be some stupid questions, it is an offense to not ask a question that should have been raised!

About the Author:

As galleries in Paris, New York, and Tokyo continued to shut down at an alarming rate due to COVID-19, ART SHOW INTERNATIONAL’s appearance to the art scene materialized quite unceremoniously. Our organization, however, from its inception, has remained steadfast in its mission, its sole purpose being to thwart the deleterious effects of an once-in-a-lifetime raging pandemic on the life and livelihood of visual artists all around the world. Our establishment was made possible by the efforts of a small group of artists, professors, academicians, and entrepreneurs. Even now, we run exclusively for the benefit of artists, and our revenue stream support our dedicated art, editorial, and web development teams, and any profit generated from it are donated as cash prize to top artists of the competitions.
