On a low budget, bathroom renovations

From interior design shows to well-known bathroom remodels on Instagram, the media is flooded with inspirational spa-like interiors — including some fantastic bathrooms on a budget.

Because the good news is that most bathroom ideas are still attainable regardless of your financial situation.

Thanks to lookalike surfaces and innovative DIY workarounds, you may still pay homage to the hottest interior design trends without employing a contractor.

1. BUY ELEGANT BATHROOM STORAGE TO FREE UP SPACE

Peter Grech won our 2018 Real Homes award for best bathroom for transforming his bathroom into a fashionable refuge.

Shelves are an excellent bathroom storage solution, but you can make them both practical and elegant by opting for open shelving that can also be used as a focal point.

Use them to keep your staples, such as soaps, cotton wool, floss, and other items (in gorgeous glass jars if you like), but also add some more decorative items, such as candles, house plants, and cute folded towels.

2. REVISE TOWELS AND THE WAY YOU KEEP THEM

A wooden ladder was leaning against the wall, with towels draped over the top.

Getting a few new towels is the cheapest way to redecorate your bathroom.

Consider varying the manner you keep them as well.

You didn't spend money on fresh towels to keep them folded in a cupboard, so put them on display!

Something as simple as a beautiful wooden ladder would be ideal.

3. FOR A FRESH FEEL, ADD SIMPLE BATHROOM ACCESSORIES

In a bathroom with towels, a floor standing tap serves as a pointer to washing towels.

Accessories are a simple, affordable (and often functional) way to update your bathroom.

Soap dispensers, toothbrush holders, caddies, storage jars, and all the other fun stuff are on the table.

When you're out shopping for groceries, keep an eye out for cheap bathroom decorations; stores like Asda, Tesco, and Sainsbury's all have some excellent and budget options.

4. USE A MIRROR TO BRIGHTEN AND ENLARGE A BATHROOM

Mirrors may give a lot of space and light to a room, which will make your bathroom seem fresher, according to interior design 101.

So, you already know what we'll say: get a new bathroom mirror.

To bounce as much light about as possible, go as big as your room will allow.

5. USE TILE STICKERS TO DECORATE

Tile stickers have only recently been revealed to have life-changing effects.

They're usually under a tenner a pack and may be used just about anyplace.

Effect for ones that are water-resistant (most of them are), and you can use them to reproduce this look by sticking them over your current shower tiles — no messy grout or pricey patterned tiles required.

6. REMOVE GRIME FROM IN BETWEEN WALL TILES

Are you looking for a free way to update your bathroom tile?

That is, almost.

Then you'll be able to clean tile grout like a pro in no time.

A toothbrush, a lovely cream cleaner, and a little elbow grease are all you'll need.

You can instantly brighten up your bathroom walls by removing dirt and debris from between your grout lines.

Allow the paste to perform its magic for about 30 minutes after getting it into all the nooks and crannies.

Rinse it off with clean water and wipe up any residue with a microfibre cloth after you've left it for a bit.

Top tip: A natural cream cleanser made with baking soda and vinegar will leave your grout shining.

We have an entire piece on natural cleaning hacks, so be sure to check that out as well.

However, if the stains persist, an inexpensive grout pen should do the trick once and for all.
