What is a fair rate for 5-days gorilla and chimpanzee safari in Uganda?

One of the most interesting and unforgettable safaris you will ever do is a 5-day trip to Uganda to see gorillas and chimpanzees. The Uganda primate safari is another name for it. You will visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Kibale Forest National Park during this safari with Dav Safaris. The fair price is inclusive of permits for gorillas and chimpanzees, transportation, lodging, and service fees, and it is transparent. The prices to estimate the cost of a 5-day gorilla and chimpanzee safari in Uganda are broken down below.

How much will the 5 day gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safari in Uganda cost?

Gorilla Trekking in Bwind impenetrable Forest National Park

One of the highlights of a 5-day gorilla and chimpanzee safari in Uganda is gorilla trekking. Gorilla tracking involves going through the bush to locate and observe a specific habituated mountain gorilla family. Prior to gorilla trekking, gorilla trackers, advanced teams, and rangers employ a variety of indicators and tactics to locate these gorillas. The trackers get up very early every morning and explore the jungle for these mountain gorillas. In order to be found, they make raucous noises like clapping.

Once they've located them, the trackers will inform the park headquarters, and the guides will then instruct the tourists on what to do and what not to do before directing them as they walk and trek through the forest. This increases your chances of sighting gorillas in the Nkuringo, Buhoma, Rushaga, or Ruhija gorilla zones by 99 percent. Depending on the availability of permits, you can choose to embark on a gorilla trek either at the beginning or conclusion of your safari.

During your excursion on a 5-day gorilla and chimpanzee safari, gorilla permits are mandatory. The price of the gorilla permits varies depending on whether gorilla trekking or gorilla habituation is selected as the activity. The cost of a gorilla trekking permit in Bwindi is USD 700 for non-foreign residents, USD 600 for residents of East Africa, and Ugx 250,000 for citizens of East Africa. You can spend up to four hours with the gorillas with a gorilla habitat permit, which costs USD 1500 for non-foreign residents, USD 1000 for East African residents, and Ugandan Shillings 750,000 for East African citizens.

The experience of becoming habituated is in the sectors of Rushaga and Nkuringo in the southern part of Bwindi. The price is in line with the Uganda Wildlife Authority Tariff for 2021–2022. The cost of the gorilla permit includes all entrance costs to Bwindi Forest, guides' fees for a day in the forest, and conservation value because Bwindi is home to the world's surviving half of mountain gorillas.

Trekking Chimpanzee in Kibale Forest National Park

One of the activities on a 5-day Uganda gorilla and chimpanzee safari is chimpanzee trekking. The activity gives you the chance to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat, and these animals are fascinating to watch. The largest concentration of chimpanzees in Uganda may be found in Kibale National Park, which is known as the "Primate Capital."

Visitors are first given a training at the park headquarters on the dos and don'ts of the trip before being allowed to begin walking into the forest in search of the chimpanzees. Guides and park rangers always protect the clients' safety while they are in the forest. For those who want to observe chimpanzees that are habituated to humans, a chimpanzee trekking permit is absolutely necessary. Once you find a chimpanzee, the ticket only allows for one hour of viewing and staying with the chimp.

Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park is available in three different sessions. Specifically, throughout the year, morning sessions begin at 8:00am, mid-morning sessions begin at noon, and afternoon sessions begin at 12pm. When organizing a 5-day gorilla and chimpanzee safari in Uganda, chimpanzee trekking permits are essential. The price of the chimpanzee permits includes entrance fees and guide costs, and they are available for purchase at the offices of the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

The cost of a chimpanzee trekking permit is $200 per person for non-foreign residents, $150 per person for foreign residents, and 150,000 Uganda Shillings per person for citizens of East Africa, according to the UWA-Tariff for 2021–2022. For your intended trip and trek dates, chimpanzee permits must be reserved in advance because they can sell out during the busy season.

The Transportation Cost

The cost of the chosen mode of transportation, fuel, driver guide compensation, aircraft ticket, and vehicle rental for a five-day safari all factor towards the total cost of transportation. The quickest way to reach the park is by air, and flights to Kibale National Park and Bwindi are available every day. The trip takes about one hour and fifteen minutes. You can fly into Kasese Airstrip, Kihihi Airstrip, or Kisoro Airstrip from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi; adult tickets start at USD273.

You can also take a road trip to Kibale National Park and Bwindi for a five-day gorilla and chimpanzee safari; the drives take about five hours from Entebbe or Kampala to Kibale National Park and about eight to nine hours from Kampala to Bwindi, respectively. The journey may seem long, but it is actually very pleasurable because there are many interesting places to visit along the way.

The vehicles are very comfortable and spacious for your safari experience, and safari vans hire range from USD70 per day and Land cruisers range from USD150-250 per day. Fuel for the round trip of a 5-day gorilla and chimpanzee safari ranges from USD300 depending on the car you choose to use. We only use 44 vehicles because of the condition of our roads in the park.

Accommodation cost for 5-days gorilla and chimpanzee Trekking safari in Uganda

For easy access to the park headquarters in Bwindi, we advise lodging in the region where you are trekking and where your permits indicate. The lodges, campgrounds, and motels in Bwindi range in price from USD70 to USD100 per person per night for premium accommodations. You can stay at the Rushaga Gorilla Camp, the Four Gorilla Lodge, or the Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge in Rushaga, and the Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge, the Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge, or the Gorilla Heights Lodge in Nkuringo.

You can choose from a variety of lodging alternatives in the Kibale Forest National Park, from affordable hostels to luxurious lodges, all of which offer services worthy of the money you spend. You will need to drive a short distance to the park headquarters from the majority of the lodges, which are located on the forest's periphery and offer cottages with views of the forest or crater lakes.

Ndali Lodge, Crater Safari Lodge, Kyaninga Lodge, and Papaya are all luxurious lodging options. Primate Lodge and Turaco Tree Tops are moderate lodging choices. For those on a tighter budget, there is also the chimpanzee forest guest house, Isunga Lodge, and Kiable Forest Camp.
