PTE Reorder Paragraph

In the PTE Reading section, Reorder Paragraph is one of the most challenging tasks. However, with a good deal of practice and correct technique, you can turn the ship around and improve your score. On the screen, you will see the paragraph you need to reorder on the left and the sentences you need to move in the right order on the right side. What this means is that, in order to be coherent, each sentence must be sequentially connected and have a logical structure. It is important to recognize that these connections are made through repetition of nouns, the replacement of nouns with pronouns, the use of definite and indefinite articles, or the use of transition words. A knowledge of paragraph structures is also necessary, these may include chronology, a description of flow or process, an order of importance, or a comparison and contrast. As for chronology, you have to figure out how the process or flow is described or if there is a flow mentioned. When answering the order of importance question, you will have a paragraph in which events are listed in order of importance from most important to least important. The compare and contrast questions also require comparison of two subjects or topics, initially a comparison is made, and then a contrast is made. By having this knowledge, you will be better prepared to get a high score in the Reorder Paragraph questions. By combining the expertise of paragraph structure and coherence, you have conquered half the task.

It is simple to answer the Reorder Paragraph question. It is recommended that you identify the topic sentence, which is also the independent sentence of the paragraph. The independent sentence is not dependent on any other sentence, and it does not refer to any other subject or object in other sentences. It is possible to find two independent sentences in one Reorder Paragraph question, but this can also be solved logically. When you encounter this situation, you need to consider which sentence is more important or makes more sense at the beginning. Having determined the topic sentence of the paragraph, you can then move on to identifying the next sentences in the sequence. Again, knowing subject-verb-object will help you a lot. Pronouns can replace nouns or nouns can be repeated, definite and indefinite articles can also be used with nouns, and transition words link the paragraph together as well.
