If you were a fan of pop music in the early 1980s, you probably listened to Wham!. The British duo, made up of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, produced some of the most popular songs of the decade. From "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" to "Last Christmas", Wham! was unlikely to disappoint their fans. Though they broke up in 1986, Michael's solo career proved just as successful. In fact, many say that Michael was one of the greatest singers of all time. So what happened to Wham!? Read on to find out.

Wham! was formed in 1981 by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. The duo met while they were both attending Bushey Meads School in Bushey, Hertfordshire. They bonded over their love of music and soon began writing and performing their own songs.

In 1982, they released their first single, "Wham Rap! (Enjoy What You Do?)". The song was not a commercial success, but it did catch the attention of record labels. The following year, they released their debut album, Fantastic. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Young Guns (Go for It!)",  "Club Tropicana", "Love Machine", and "Bad Boys". They released their second and final studio album, Make It Big, on November 5, 1984. The album topped several charts including the US Billboard 200 and UK Albums charts. It featured hit singles such as "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", "Everything She Wants", and "Careless Whisper".

By 1985, Wham! had become one of the biggest pop groups in the world. They embarked on a hugely successful tour of China, becoming the first Western pop group to perform in the country. However, tensions between Michael and Ridgeley were beginning to surface. In 1986, they released their farewell single, "The Edge of Heaven".

In the years since their breakup, both George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley have pursued successful solo careers. George Michael released several well-received albums, including Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1, Older, and Patience. He also had several hit singles, such as "Faith", "Jesus to a Child", and "Fastlove". Andrew Ridgeley released one solo album, Son of Albert, in 1990. However, it was not a commercial success.

George Michael passed away in 2016 at the age of 53. His death came as a shock to fans around the world. In the years since there has been much speculation about what caused his death. However, the exact cause has never been determined.

Though they only released two albums, Wham! left a lasting impression on the world of pop music. Their catchy tunes and energetic performances continue to entertain fans decades after their breakup. George Michael's untimely death was a tragedy, but his legacy as one of the greatest singers of all time lives on.

So what happened to Wham!? In short, they broke up and both members went on to have solo careers. George Michael was one of the greatest singers of all time, and his death in 2016 was a huge loss to the music industry. Andrew Ridgeley largely retired from the music industry, but he has remained active in charitable causes.
