4 Popular Board Games You Can Try This Weekend

Board games have a long history that goes back to ancient times. I am on the young end of the millennial generation. I am not too old to play board games. Several board games are available today that you can enjoy with kids, family, friends, and colleagues if you are lucky.

Today, I’ll tell you about some popular board games you can play this weekend. Let us see how many of these you have played and how many you’ll be trying.

1) Chess

Chess is the best-selling board game of all time. You can enjoy this game with kids, friends, and family. Each pawn or player in chess has individual powers, and you need to use these pawns on a chess table (8*8 blocks).

Chess has given us communities, competitions, tournaments, and more. Professional players and diehard fans of chess use different strategies and seek ways to get better each time.

Chess has given fame, money, and respect to several people. You can play it in a non-competitive way too. You can also use your tweaks and modifications to make this game fun.

2) Checkers

Checkers game is also known as draught. It has been out there since 3000 BC. Two players play this game on a board by moving their pieces diagonally to capture each other’s pieces.

Your opponent has to remove his piece from the board as soon as you jump over it. Whoever manages to remove all the pieces of the opponent wins the game.

People use a 2-by-12 or a ten-by-ten board to play this game. Its board is easy to design, so it is famous worldwide. According to Reddit, more than 50 billion units of checkers have sold till now. It is a fun game to play with kids too. You can enjoy this game after a dinner party at your house.

3) Scrabble

Scrabble is my personal favorite because I love learning new words. There is no better way of learning than playing a game. It is a simple, thoughtful, and elegant game that does not require additional rules or items. It uses language as a component.

You play this game with pieces you picked randomly from a bag. You can use these pieces to benefit yourself or block other players. You need to make meaningful words on the board in this game.

Some words are easier to make, but they also give low points. Some difficult words( 7-12 letters, starting with letters like Q, Y, Z, etc.) give you more points. So, what do people do when they are stuck with a difficult word?

People often search the internet for high scoring words for scrabble. You can also do the same thing if you run out of options. There is no fun in playing a board game with your friends if you can not cheat a little.

4) Monopoly

I know because almost everyone I know plays or has played this game before. Elizabeth Philips created Monopoly in 1903. This game is related to real estate.

Players move around and try to purchase as many properties as they can. They also collect rent from the opponent, and the bankrupt player gets out of the game. The name Monopoly is the best suited because it involves outshining all other property owners.

Dice plays a vital role in this game, making it a fun game to play with family and friends. No matter how much effort you put in this game, dice decide your fate in the end.

Conclusion

You can also play card games, snake and ladders, Game of Life, etc. You might need to be sure about the board games your guests love to play before inviting them for a dinner or get-together.

You do not necessarily have to buy all these board games. You can easily make your own board game by using in-house items.
