The new Opel Astra Electric is practical and emission-free

Opel is starting a new chapter with the new Astra: the House of Rüsselsheim has released the first images of the brand-new Opel Astra Electric. The "Blitz" brand thus delivers the first series-produced electric Opel Astra in the history of this best-selling small, which has enjoyed decades of popularity and recently received the "Golden Steering Wheel 2022." But wait, there's more: Along with the battery-electric 5-door model, the classic German brand is also introducing the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric, the country's first electric station wagon.

"The Opel Astra Electric and Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric are truly pioneering vehicles: with the new battery-electric versions of the 5-door and station wagon, customers will have cars suitable for everyday use, characterized by a high level of comfort and, above all, a high level of driving pleasure with zero local emissions." "This is what we mean by an intelligent "greenovation" of mobility," stated Opel CEO Florian Huettl. "Our electrification offensive is still ongoing." "The new Opel Astra Electric is a significant step forward in our ambition to become Europe's first all-electric brand."

With the "Blitz," Opel Astra purchasers can select from more drive options than any other model in the future. In addition to highly efficient internal combustion engines, the Opel Astra and Opel Astra Sports Tourer are now available in plug-in hybrid electric versions, including the new top model, the Opel Astra GSe. The battery-powered Opel Astra Electric, ready for order in spring 2023, will round out the engine lineup shortly.

Driving joy and responsibility: thrilling, practical, and emission-free

Customers will be electrified by the new Opel Astra Electric and Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric. Like all models of the Opel Astra, they are distinguished not just by bold and obvious design but also by responsible performance. The new Opel Astra Electric provides pure driving pleasure while emitting no local emissions. The electric engine produces 115 kW (156 horsepower) and an outstanding 270 Newton meters of maximum torque, both of which are immediately available when the accelerator is pressed, ensuring lightning-fast starts and believable acceleration. While many other electric vehicles have top speeds of 150 or 160 kilometers per hour, the new Opel Astra Electric boasts a top speed of 170 kilometers per hour. The Opel Astra Electric offers three driving modes based on the driver's preferences: Eco, Normal, and Sport.

The energy is stored in the lithium-ion battery, which has a capacity of 54 kWh. According to the WLTP cycle, the 102 battery cells packed in 17 modules allow the new Opel Astra Electric to go up to 416 kilometers with zero local emissions. The engineers paid close attention to the architecture's efficiency and achieved exceptional range while keeping the battery size low. The new Opel Astra Electric uses only 12.7 kWh of electricity per 100 kilometers, making it frugal and appropriate for everyday use but also the ideal time-saving companion for longer travels, whether in 5-door or station wagon form (Sports Tourer). When the battery-electric Opel Astra needs to be recharged, it takes a quick "pit stop" at a charging station. A 100 kW direct current rapid charging station can charge the battery in the Opel Astra Electric to 80% capacity in around 30 minutes. Furthermore, the electric Opel Astra comes standard with an 11 kW three-phase onboard charger for connecting to a home wallbox.

The batteries are housed beneath the floor, a particularly efficient option that preserves space for passengers and the boot. The Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric has a boot volume of 516 liters even with the rear seats in place; with the seats folded down, the capacity increases to 1,553 liters. Another benefit is that the low battery position provides the Opel Astra Electric and Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric with characteristic Opel road safety and stability.

The inside also offers a particularly intense driving experience: the ergonomic active sports seats, available in Alcantara as an option, provide the driver and passengers with the greatest degree of comfort that Opel has grown to anticipate. The AGR ergonomic seats's independent posture specialists have validated, provide exceptional lateral stability and a variety of manual and electric adjustments. As a result, the driver feels even more integrated into the car and has a one-of-a-kind sense behind the wheel.

The Pure Panel, a digital cockpit with two huge 10-inch widescreens, whisks the driver away to the future. The most recent edition of the user-friendly human-machine interface displays all major functions, such as battery charge level or range, but important settings, such as climate control, may still be readily modified with the push of a button. The driver can keep his eyes on the road and traffic with the big E-HUD Head-Up Display and natural voice recognition technology. The new Intelli-Drive 2.0 combines many driver assistance systems that make driving safer. These include accident warnings with automatic emergency braking, active lane keeping, drowsiness detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and the segment-leading active Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light headlights with 168 LED elements.

From the initial impression, the new Opel Astra Electric conveys a direct and aggressive driving sensation. The "bold and pure" design of the electric Opel Astra includes the Opel Vizor, the brand's new face, and a super sports front bumper available in any trim level. The standard 18-inch alloy wheels with diamond-cut or all-black finishes are another eye-catching feature. The new Opel Astra Electric also sends a clear and unmistakable message in this regard: the compact Opel marks the start of a new chapter: exciting, electrifying, and, for the first time, fully electric. @via Panorica.
