  • As per the original composition of these paintings, Tanjore paintings had a base of wood from teak trees. However, nowadays the base is found to be made out of plywood

  • Next, according to the ancient method, glue generated from the tamarind seeds was used to put a thick layer on the base.

  • Once this layer was applied, a cloth was pasted on the base and left to dry up

  • The next layer was made of chalk and glue which was called Gesso. Once the setup dried, the artists began to sketch their art on it.

  • After the sketching is completed, the artists pour the gesso mixture adequately throughout the sketch in an accurate manner.

  • The motive was to keep the painting as 3 dimensional and sleek

  • After all the gesso layers dried up, the artists can add selected color combinations to it in an efficient form

  • Finally, gold or silver (according to design) foils were added to the paintings, and the artists provided a finishing touch to the art
