6 Fashionable Ways To Wear Indian Sarees In Different States

India is one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world, with a wide variety of languages, foods, music genres, and saree-draping techniques. The traditional Indian saree is a timeless piece of clothing, even if fashion trends in India are continuously changing.

For many years, sarees have been regarded as the ideal clothing for Indian ladies. To showcase their beauty and elegance, however, women like to dress in traditional ethnic apparel on almost every occasion, from Marathi sarees to Gujarati, Bengali to Kerala. So it comes as no surprise that sarees are among the most fashionable Indian clothing ever created and can enhance the beauty of any woman.

6 Different Ways to Wear the Indian Saree in Each State

Even though there are many distinct saree types and styles in India, it can be difficult for women to drape them properly. It might be challenging for women to decide which style of saree to wear for various events because there are so many. As a result, to give your traditional Indian look a twist, here are some common ways to wear sarees according to different states.

1. The Traditional Andhra Pradesh Nivi Drape

The Nivi drape is the most well-known method of draping a saree. Despite having its roots in the culturally diverse state of Andhra Pradesh, this kind of everyday wear saree is now popular all over the world. That it is one of the easiest to do can whet your appetite even further! So, this is how you drape.

  • Don the petticoat. Then, make sure the saree falls correctly over your feet as you tuck it into the waistband from left to right. Again, you want to tuck the fabric away just the right amount—not too much or too little.
  • Wrap it entirely around your lower body.
  • The pallu's short length should be evenly pleated before being gathered and slung over your left shoulder.
  • The pallu should be fastened to the shoulder with a safety pin.
  • Depending mostly on the length of the fabric, gather the remaining saree and add 7 to 8 pleats. Again, secure these pleats in position using safety pins.

2. The Well-known Bengali Saree

One of the most distinctive and beautiful drapery techniques ever is this one. Even women enjoy trying the latest Indian sarees, such as the Bengali saree. A Bengali saree should be draped according to these rules.

  • The saree should be tucked in just above your navel. Then, tightly tuck it in as you wrap it in a circle around your waist. From the right, move back to the starting position.
  • You do not need to make a complete circle this time; simply bring the extra saree cloth to your left side. Instead, fold the saree in half and tuck it to the left of your lower back.
  • Keep the box pleats in place with both hands, then tighten the saree to make the front flat.
  • Moving to your right side, take the remaining saree. To bring the material to your back via the right, cross the folds on your front, and tuck it in at the waist.

3. Maharashtra's Eye-Catching Nauvari Saree

The Maharashtrians love to wear this saree. One of the newest Indian saree styles that many women want to try out is the nauvari, which is in style everywhere. Here's how to put it on.

  • Make pleats on the Pallu and pin them for 1.2 metres to get started.
  • Pull the opposite end of the saree forward to the right side and tie a tight knot while the inner section is still wrapped around your waist at the back.
  • Bring the Pallu back to the front after wrapping it from left to right. At the left shoulder, roughly position and pin it.
  • After adjusting the front drape border, wrap and tuck on the left side. As a result, a front loop for the skirt pleats will be created.
  • The border is pleated and folded on the right side. Next, tighten it and tuck it into the waistband at the rear. The front pleats need to be adjusted such that the outer border is a cowl around the mid-waist area.

4. The Gorgeous Gujarati Saree Look

Sidha Pallu Saree Drape is another name for the Gujarati drape. This emphasises and draws attention to the pallu. Weddings and other festive events usually include this kind of dress. To achieve this appearance, you must take these steps.

  • To drape this look, begin with the standard saree drape and progress to center-tucking the pleats.
  • Create five to six-inch pleats on your right shoulder, then move them forward by twisting your back.
  • Allow the pleats to fall in the front, displaying the wonderful craftsmanship on your saree.
  • Drag the starting border to the left side after fixing the pleats on your shoulder. Put the left side end behind your waist. And dressed in a saree drape in the Gujarati fashion, you're ready to grace the occasion.

5. The Traditional Silk Sarees of Manipur

The phanek and the innaphi are the two traditional Manipuri sarees in Manipur culture. Meitei phanek and tribal phanek are two types of phanek that resemble sarongs or skirts that are wrapped around the body. While Innaphi is a wrap for the upper body. While Innaphi features delicate flower patterns that can be used as a dupatta, Phanek is available in cotton, silk, and other materials with horizontal stripes and floral borders. Phaneks are simple to wear, and you can select from a variety of designer Manipuri phaneks to elegantly and gracefully complete your ethnic attire.

6. Kerala's Evergreen Kasavu Saree

Simple white and cream silk or cotton sarees with a golden zari border have cemented their status as a well-liked traditional Kerala saree. The Malayali culture's signature garment, the kasavu saree, exudes an air of elegance that has charmed women of all faiths, including traditional saree aficionados and avant-garde fashionistas. This is the fundamental way to drape this saree.

  • Starting from the right side of your waist and moving over to your left, tuck the saree end from the top edge into the petticoat.
  • With your left hand, wrap it around your waist from the back to the front centre.Make pleats on the middle portion of the remaining drape, then tuck it into the petticoat with the left-facing pleats facing up.
  • Without tucking it in, bring the open drape across your back from the right side to the front. Instead, you can tuck the draping edge until it reaches your left waist and pin the pleats in the centre.
  • The border should fall on the first pleat to drape over the shoulder when you hold up the breadth (Pallu) part and produce five to six-inch pleats.
  • Drag the drape from beneath the right armhole up and across your left shoulder while holding the pleats upright.
  • With at least a metre of fall from the shoulder point, properly place the pleats on your left shoulder, and pin it to keep it in place.
