Navy Egyptian Cotton Bedding

One of the most debated subjects ever! Which bed sheet is better, Egyptian cotton or Cotton. Currently, Cotton is dominating the market with 72% of the market and Egyptian cotton is lagging behind with only 28% of the market. While this is a lot difference it is not that far apart. However, with the growth predicted for 2016 and 2017, I think that we will see the market soon split. Let’s look at some interesting facts around the subject and see which one is a better bet for us.

Egyptian Cotton

Why is Egyptian cotton the best? First of all, it is made in Egypt. With the economic growth in the area, Egypt has increased their production quality and hence, their demand for cotton. Since the quality of the cotton is so good the weave is tighter and more durable.

The Price

Cotton is considerably cheaper than Egyptian cotton. At $150 per 100 sheets, Egyptian cotton is costlier than $65 per 100 sheets for Cotton.

Heavy and Burable

Egyptian cotton is stronger than Cotton. Yes, even stronger than Indian cotton. The Egyptian cotton weave is tighter and denser, hence much heavier. It is durable, only getting better with age.

The Care

Egyptian cotton is very comfortable. Even more expensive than Cotton, Egyptian cotton has a higher thread count, around 200, whereas the thread count of Cotton is around 180. Since they are denser, Egyptian cotton sheets are more breathable and softer. Cotton sheets may feel too warm in the summer.

Other Properties

Egyptian cotton bedding is hypo-allergenic. If encase dust mite allergies are an issue, then Egyptian cotton sheets are recommended. It is also not prone to shrinking when washed.

Cotton sheets are of better quality than Egyptian cotton sheets. Cotton sheets, on average, have a thread count of 180 and the weave is smoother. Egyptian cotton weave is denser and has a thread count of 200. It is also durable. Cotton sheets have been known to last longer, even a lifetime! Why Egyptian Cotton is Better

Egyptian cotton is the strongest, it lasts longer, it is cleaner, it has a better weave and it is more breathable. All these properties are important when you compare the sheets for hotels or beds where guests sleep more than a night.

Cotton is cheaper, weighs less, is more comfortable and generally, more breathable. I personally still prefer Egyptian cotton sheets over Cotton sheets. If you also like Egyptian cotton, check out our range of Egyptian cotton bed sheets, sleeping quilts and mattress protectors here.
