The US military still uses floppy disks from the 1970s to coordinate certain functions within the nuclear weapons program, according to a government report.
According to the report, spent the equivalent of over 500 billion tax money to maintain systems with aging technology, three times more than was invested in modern IT systems.
Eight Inch Floppy to IBM's 1-series computers - which came in 1976 when Gerald Ford was president - are used to coordinate intercontinental ballistic missiles and bombers.
- This system is still in use because, in short, still working, said Pentagon spokeswoman Valerie Henderson.
According to the report, the system must be completely replaced 2020.
