The idea is that the reaction of pain to function in the same way as it does in humans.

The robots will similarly use pain to protect themselves from harm.

When we pull ourselves away from the source of the pain, it helps us not to harm us, says Johannes Kuehn who was one of the researchers who last week presented the research at a robot conference in Stockholm.

And as the development system will eventually prevent dangerous accidents that can be caused by small changes in the robot equipment.

The research team has developed a prototype for a reflex control with a kind of finger tops sensor that detects temperature and pressure.
