Cone believes Clarkson's Gilas has the potential to dominate Asia

Philippine Gilas: The Philippines rebounded from a tough loss to Lebanon four days earlier with an emphatic 84-46 victory over Saudi Arabia in front of an adoring home crowd on Monday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Gilas Pilipinas finished the fourth Asian qualifying round for the FIBA World Cup in 2023 with a 1-1 record.

Jordan Clarkson's 23 points and Kai Sotto's 16 points and 13 rebounds helped the Philippine Gilas improve to 3-3 in Group E.

Due to Gilas' slow start, Saudi Arabia took a 14-8 lead late in the first quarter.

Clarkson, however, beat the buzzer with a three-pointer. Electrifying the audience while also paving the way for Gilas to stamp their class by restricting visitors. In the final three quarters, he scored 32 points.

"All we wanted was to get better, to play better than we did in the previous game against Lebanon," Gilas coach Chot Reyes said. "And that meant putting in more effort, specifically reducing our turnovers from 21 in Lebanon to something less today."

"I think we did well," Clarkson added. "I think we made some adjustments during the game. We knew they were trying to slow us down, to change the pace and slow it down so we couldn't get out and run and take advantage of opportunities when we were in the open floor. Coach made an excellent adjustment by picking them up and altering the pace of the game."

Saudi Arabia's coach, Mohamed Mounir Youssef, bemoaned his team's inability to play consistently.

"I believe we played very well for the first 15 or 16 minutes. However, we did not play at a high level of basketball in the second half. Offensively, it was a difficult night."

In addition to the Philippine Gilas:

Gilad will face Jordan on November 10 and Saudi Arabia on November 13, respectively.

Reyes stated that a plan for player availability is already in place, adding, "We've already discussed it with the PBA. They intend to make players accessible. The UAAP and NCAA are similar.

"At the most recent SBP general meeting, they stated that the UAAP and NCAA are willing to do so. Call a two-week break in their schedule if necessary to allow players we may select to participate in the November window.

"It's the same with the PBA. We're excited about that. Nothing is set in stone yet, but the conversation has begun."

Finally, the Philippine Gilas bounced back from a tough loss to Lebanon by defeating Saudi Arabia 84-46 in front of a home crowd. Jordan Clarkson's 23-point performance, combined with Kai Sotto's 16-point and 13-rebound performance, helped Gilas improve to a 3-3 record in Group E of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. The team made significant progress, reducing turnovers and making excellent game adjustments. Coach Chot Reyes stressed the importance of player availability for the upcoming matches against Jordan and Saudi Arabia, and plans are in place to ensure that players are available. The victory over Saudi Arabia was a significant step forward for Gilas, and fans can expect more exciting games in the future.
