CVV Code : All you Need to Know !

The card verification value code, or CVV code, is a security feature for “card-not-present” transactions (e.g., online transactions). It consists of requiring a three- or four-digit code to be entered in addition to the credit card number. The purpose of the code is to verify that the customer placing the order actually possesses the credit card and that the card account is legitimate.

The CVV code is not stored within a merchant’s computer system or on the magnetic strip of a credit card, so if either of these are compromised, the code cannot be obtained by any unauthorized person. The CVV code helps to reduce fraud losses for merchants and issuers, as the code cannot be used without physically having possession of the card.

The CVV code should never be given out over the phone or in a response to an email. Doing so could compromise your security and increase your risk of identity theft. When buying online, always make sure that you are transacting on a secure website, and remember to always enter the correct CVV code for your credit card during checkout.

If you’re making a purchase in person, never write your CVV code on the outside of an envelope or other material that is sent through the mail. Instead, be sure to keep your credit cards safe from fraud or theft by regularly checking your account statements and credit reports. As an added layer of security, you may want to consider using a virtual card number when making purchases online.

By understanding the importance of keeping your CVV code secure and taking extra steps to protect yourself from fraud or identity theft, you can shop safely knowing that your personal information is protected. The CVV code is an essential part of the security measures that protect both you and merchants from fraud. So make sure to keep it safe!
