A multistage centrifugal pump is a centrifugal pump with two or more impellers. Either the same shaft or other shafts may be used to install the impellers. The fluid is guided to the centre at each stage before moving to the discharge on the outside diameter.


Vertical Centrifugal Pumps are sometimes known as cantilever pumps. Thanks to a unique shaft and bearing support system they use, the volute can hang in the sump while the bearings are supported outside of the sump.


Impellers of centrifugal pump can be coupled in series for increased outlet pressures. Impellers can be joined in parallel for increased flow output. The boiler feed water pump is a typical example of how multistage centrifugal pumps are used. For instance, a 350 MW unit would need two feed pumps operating simultaneously. A multistage centrifugal pump with a 150 L/s at 21 MPa output powers each feed pump. The mechanical energy that propels the impeller is the source of all energy that is transmitted to the fluid.


This may be observed at isentropic compression, which causes a little rise in temperature in addition to a rise in pressure. Many centrifugal pumps must be mounted on or housed in mud tanks as part of an oilfield solids control system.


Sand pumps, submersible slurry pumps, shear pumps, and charge pumps are the several kinds of centrifugal pumps that are employed. Although they are each defined for a specific function, their basic operation is the same.
