Get all the information about flying with pets, including Delta's pet fees, pet policy, and some frequently asked questions about traveling with pets with Delta Air Lines.

Delta Airlines flights allow pets to travel as cargo if they are service animals i.e. animals serving the forces. They are not permitted to travel in the cabin and may be subject to certain baggage fees and additional restrictions. Let's say, there are some countries where there are some restrictions like pet fee if you are traveling by air.

For animals in the cabin

The size of the Delta carry bag will depend on the type of aircraft. You need to call and confirm the size of the carrier or you can simply purchase a Delta approved pet carrier at the airport itself. Also, if you cancel your ticket, your pet will not be allowed to travel alone.

For animals in cargo

For animals transported in cargo, any size is good, as long as the animals can sit and stand comfortably in the carrier. You can choose from the following dimensions: 27″ x 20″ x 19″ (68 cm x 50 cm x 48 cm); 32″ x 22″ x 23″ (81cm x 55cm x 58cm); 36″ x 24″ x 26″ (91cm x 61cm x 66cm); 40″ x 27″ x 30″ (101cm x 68cm x 76cm); and 48″ x 32″ x 35″ (122cm x 81cm x 89cm).

Types of pets accepted on Delta Airlines

Delta's pet policy only allows certain types of pets on its flights. Some animals may travel on Delta flights as carry-on baggage and others may be shipped by Delta Cargo. It depends on the size of the animals. Small pets such as dogs, cats and domestic birds are accepted as pets. These pets are accepted in the main cabin on most flights within the United States, Canada and the Virgin Islands.

Hawaii, a state in the United States, does not accept pets traveling in the main cabin as carry-on baggage. The size of your small animals should be suitable in a carrier that can fit under the seat in front of you. A bell animal will count as carry-on baggage. Besides pet carry-on baggage, you are also allowed to take one personal item with you into the main cabin.

How do I make pet reservations with Delta Airlines?

Delta accepts pets traveling on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of animals traveling with you is limited to a certain number. This depends on the class of service and destinations of your Delta flight reservations. Delta Airlines has limited the total number of pets that can travel on a flight to two for business and first class and four for flights in the men's cabin. Because the total number of pets traveling on a Delta flight is limited, you must call Delta Airlines at 1-888-875-0388 for assistance and to confirm your pet's reservation.

Trained Service and Emotional Support Animals

In accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation guidelines, Delta will no longer recognize emotional support animals as service animals. This rule came into effect on January 11, 2021. For trained pet service, only dogs are accepted as trained service animals as of January 11, 2021. Guests traveling with a trained service dog must respect certain rules and must complete available DOT forms. on the official Delta Airlines website. Delta Airlines does not discriminate based on the breed of a trained service dog.

The US CDC has temporarily suspended pet travel from countries considered to be at high risk for canine rabies. Call Delta's customer service phone number for details on pet restrictions in these countries, with some exceptions.
