Sainsbury s has begun trialling a new fast grocery delivery service in one London borough.
The new app, called Chop Chop, enables users with a Wandsworth postcode within 3km of the area s main branch to order 20 items and have them delivered in up to an hour for a flat fee of £4.99.
It s exclusive to the iOS app for now, but shows early signs that the supermarket chain is considering a challenge of sorts to Amazon, whose Prime membership scheme offers similar fast delivery times on certain products.
Once an order has been placed in Chop Chop, users can then track it from within the app.
Sainsbury s CEO Mike Coupe said the firm has seen demand for having small amounts of food delivered in short spaces of time.
Chop Chop is designed to sit alongside the supermarket s existing home delivery service as a fast alternative for a few items.
