At the heart of every water underfloor heating system are underfloor heating pipes, working to connect up and transfer hot water around the complete installation. These pipes provide an efficient way of heating your church whilst offering corrosion resistance and flexibility to meet project needs. They are also capable of retaining their durability levels even when exposed to increased water pressure.
Underfloor heating can create a more comfortable environment than traditional radiators as heat is evenly distributed across the floor surface using convection and radiation to move the warm air. The laying out of the pipes will affect how evenly heat is spread and it is important that they are spaced appropriately to prevent localised overheating which can be uncomfortable and potentially damage the flooring material.
Proper spacing will also allow for future floor fixings (doorstops, staff or handrail sockets) to be drilled through the underfloor heating layer without disturbing any pipes underneath. This is particularly important in places of worship which are often subject to archaeological excavations.
In addition to ensuring the correct spacing, it is important to choose underfloor heating pipe that has been designed specifically for use with hydronic underfloor heating systems. This ensures that the pipe is suitable for use in the ground, can withstand the temperatures associated with underfloor heating and will have an oxygen barrier which helps to prevent the build up of bacteria.
