Microsoft is launching a new subscription gaming service offering digital titles to play on Xbox One.

Xbox Game Pass will offer more than 100 Xbox One and backwards-compatible Xbox 360 games including Halo 5: Guardians, Payday 2, NBA 2K16 and Lego Batman.

Indie and retro games such as Terraria and Mega Man Legacy Collection will also feature.

Available from today for members of Microsoft's Xbox Insider Program, or late Spring for everyone else, the subscription costs £7.99 a month and new games will be added regularly, in a similar way to how Microsoft's Games with Gold program works for Xbox Live Subscribers.

Whereas free games offered through Games With Gold are only downloadable during the month they're offered, games available on the new service will be accessible for as long as they're included in the Games Pass "active catalogue".

If there's a title you play via Xbox Games Pass that you particularly enjoy and don't want to lose access, you'll be able to buy a permanent copy with a 20 per cent discount.
