Xiaomi boss Lei Jun is serious about the offline push

A few days back, we revealed how Xiaomi was looking to penetrate a bit more in the offline market.

It looks like the popular Chinese phone maker is a bit more serious about the offline push than it appeared sometime back.Xiaomi were amongst the first brands to adopt the online-only sales.

While the policy has worked fairly well for the company, they have seen their share of bad days.

For instance, Xiaomi is now primarily known for their budget Redmi series phones — with the Mi-series higher-end phones suffering in popularity in contrast.

Join GizChina on TelegramAccording to Lei Jun, the company will set up another 250 offline stores in China this year.

This is what the company plans to start with for now, to achieve a target of a total of 1,000 offline stores by 2020.Brands like OPPO, Vivo and Huawei — all of which enjoy a much larger offline presence than Xiaomi — have been doing exceedingly well in both China and the neighbouring market of India.Time will tell how the plan works out for Xiaomi.
