Lucid Motors made its first auto show appearance at this week’s 2017 New York Auto Show — and it came prepared.
The electric-car startup unveiled an “Alpha Speed Car” prototype of its Air luxury sedan that just achieved a claimed 217 mph at the Transportation Research Center test track in Ohio.
That’s the same as a Ferrari LaFerrari.
The Alpha Speed Car was pulled from Lucid’s fleet of prototype test vehicles for high-speed testing, and was fitted with a roll cage and large rear spoiler.
Lucid says the 217 mph top speed, which was achieved on a 7.5-mile oval track, was actually software limited.
It makes the Air one of the fastest electric cars around, assuming production models can achieve the same performance.
