SNL hasn’t been doing many advertising spoofs so far this season, but last night they went one better—creating a trio of vintage advertising spoofs, as part of a fun Ad Council skit.
Host Larry David played an adman—with a Jeff Goodby-esque ponytail and all—being honored with a lifetime achievement award for a career of purportedly outstanding PSAs.
But as soon as some of his 30-year-old spots begin to screen at the Ad Council dinner, the room is suddenly horrified by them.
It’s a bit ironic that Saturday’s SNL had a skit about David having created content in poor taste, considering the episode mostly made headlines for David’s monologue—which some considered actually in poor taste.
Cecily Strong did an admirable job the skit’s emcee role, too, having had some experience emceeing actual advertising events—including hosting Adweek’s 2013 Hot List Gala.
