A technique for extracting the dna from the tracks in the snow can facilitate the inventory of the Swedish lynx.
– It would be an incredible boost, " says Mia Bisther at the county administrative board in Västra Götaland.
There are about 1,200 lynx in Sweden.
But the big cats are svårräknade, not least in southern Sweden, where the snöfattiga winters make it harder to track them.
Now a pilot project is launched in the autumn will hopefully change that.
the Idea is that a technique to extract dna from the lodjurens pawprint in the snow to give a better answer.
