Amazon is looking to dominate your home entertainment system.

The online retailer is developing a new digital video recorder, nicknamed "Frank" within Amazon, according to a report Friday from Bloomberg.

The device would include physical storage, have the ability to record live TV and connect to Amazon's own Fire TV streaming boxes, the report said, citing an anonymous person familiar with the plans.

Fire TV streamers can already play live TV through the Amazon Channels service, but don't work as DVRs.

Amazon representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

If the new device exists and Amazon decides to start selling it, the DVR would become another piece of Amazon's growing list of products and services it's using to expand its influence in the living room.

A new pair of higher-end AirPods are rumoured to debut in 2019, along with a pair of over-ear headphones.

That’s a ways away, and Apple still owes us a few previously announced products, but the thought of some new wireless earbuds has me pretty excited about Apple’s in-house audio line.

It also means I should probably start saving up now, because Apple’s reportedly going to charge a premium for its most interesting upgrades.

But Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple’s more premium pair of upcoming AirPods will have a few additional amenities, adding to the already steep £159 price.

The premium AirPods will reportedly be water resistant (but not meant for activities like swimming), and feature noise-cancellation support, which requires some sort of a seal that could make these earbuds exercise-friendly.

Bloomberg says there will be an update to Apple’s regular AirPods, too, which will reportedly include hands-free Siri support, as well as an updated wireless chip.

Reuters - Twitter Inc may cut 8 percent of its workforce or about 300 people, Bloomberg reported on Monday, citing people it said were familiar with the matter.

The job cuts could be announced before the company reports third-quarter earnings on Thursday, and the number of jobs affected could change, Bloomberg said.

A company spokeswoman declined to comment.

Last year, Twitter announced plans to lay off up to 336 employees, or about 8 percent of its workforce, a week after Jack Dorsey, its co-founder who had been serving as interim chief executive, took over as permanent CEO.

Twitter, which last month hired bankers to field acquisition offers, faces an uncertain future after Salesforce.com Inc , the last of the companies believed to be interested in buying the company, said it would not make a bid.

Uber is said to be in preliminary talks to acquire London-headquartered food delivery company Deliveroo, reports Bloomberg.

The firm is presently valued at over $2 billion, and Uber will likely have to cough up a fair bit more than that to snap it up.

If the deal goes through, it could give Uber a shot at ruling the roost in the food delivery space across Europe.

Deliveroo currently operates in more than 200 cities across four continents, including 100 towns in the UK.

That may not be easy though, as the company isn’t keen to relinquish control over its business.

Uber, meanwhile is looking to build on its food delivery operations – which includes its Uber Eats service that’s available in several countries – but it seems like it’ll take more than a substantial offer to make this happen.

The leaders of some of tech's biggest companies will attend an inaugural meeting of a Trump administration group formed to modernize government services, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

The American Technology Council will focus on a variety of topics, including cloud computing and tech sales to government agencies, Bloomberg said.

The group is being led by Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and senior adviser.

Eleven companies are invited to attend the June 19, sources told the news agency, including the chief executives of Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle and IBM.

Google parent company Alphabet plans to send Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt to the meeting, according to Bloomberg.

The group will arrive at the White House meeting just weeks after many of the chiefs criticized President Donald Trump on his decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.

, global chief revenue officer at Bloomberg Media, has picked up on an almost Dickensian underpinning of the transformation sweeping the brand-marketing ecosystem—for brands it’s either the scariest time in marketing, or the most exciting.

“If you look at it from the command to control era where you are a monolithic brand just pushing out your message, it’s the scariest time in marketing and there is no trust in the consumer base,” said Grossman in an interview following the second installment of Adweek and Bloomberg Media’s quarterly “Marketing in An Interruptive World” breakfast series in New York.

However, Grossman continued, for brands that take a more human approach in which they say “Here I am, how can I help you?” things are more efficient and effective.

Grossman pointed to simply responding to social media gripes from customers with a text, a tactic he learned in his previous job as as a powerful way to bond with customers.

“It was the first time I realized that if you humanize your brand and show the consumer base that you care about them it’s a far better place to be in,” said Grossman.

The overall theme of the breakfast was Technology and Humanity.

Essential has canceled plans to develop a second phone and is exploring selling off the entire company, according to Bloomberg.

Talks of a sale sound like they aren’t very far along, and the report says that Essential still has plans for future products.

One thing that does sound certain is that Essential’s second phone — at least as it was originally planned — isn’t going to happen.

Bloomberg says the development was canceled and that engineers are now working on a smart home product, which is supposed to be released next year.

Bloomberg reports that Essential has considered remaining in the phone business, just not by designing devices itself.

Instead, Essential would reportedly contract Foxconn to handle most of the phone’s development.
