At 3300 pounds it s no longer a featherweight, and with dimensions that are nearly identical for a four-door Golf, it s not all that miniature, either.

While the classic Mini traits of spritely, engaging performance and quirky design still exist here, as the company s design focus continues to evolve with the market, it s not surprising to discover that they re largely relegated to the periphery now.

So it s through that lens that one must look at the 2016 Cooper S Clubman, a Mini which casts its net far wider than its core fanbase in hopes of reeling in a number of Mazda3, Ford Focus and VW Golf Sportwagen converts along the way.

Sure, there s a Sport button, three pedals on the floor and a turbocharger under the hood, but the Cooper S Clubman has clearly been tuned with comfort placed at a higher priority than corner carving.

In comparison to the Mini Hardtop the Clubman s suspension tuning is noticeably softer, with body roll and brake dive quickly beginning becoming evident on demanding roads.

The new Clubman, like most of the rest of the current Mini lineup, will likely find favor with buyers who re looking for a car with more personality than the alternatives but would prefer to forego the potential drawbacks in comfort and convenience that are inherent to high performance tuning, diminutive proportions and quirkiness.

At 2.28 tonnes, the Hexa is a lot of metal to be hauling around.

Of course, Tata Motors knew what they were dealing with here.

And to ensure the Hexa’s engine had enough grunt for the task, they reworked their 2.2 litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged, intercooled engine for 154bhp and 400Nm.

So, if you try to demand a surge of power before the turbo fully spools, you’ll have to change gear.

With the Varicor 400 motor, the Hexa has more than enough grunt for spirited driving.

Body control is quite good too, except for body roll around high speed bends – as is expected from a vehicle of this type.

Bigger, safer and surprisingly nice to drive, the fourth-gen Hyundai Santa Fe is back with a bang.

Super sleek LED headlamps and daytime running lights dominate the front.

The interior is not only more spacious than previous iterations, but also has better quality materials than you’d expect – Hyundai’s quest to rival the German heavyweights is quite apparent here.

The steering is precise and direct, and is quite communicative too.

All in all, it’s a versatile SUV – an ideal car for families that love travelling in comfort, on both long and short journeys.

Body roll was limited, and the dampers continued to exhibit impressive absorption of bumps and undulations.

The Jaguar F-PACE took the luxury SUV market by storm when it arrived in late 2016.

That year, the stunning luxury crossover SUV sent Jag's US sales figures through the roof — up an astonishing 116%.

In the time since, the F-PACE has continued its strong sales performance while nearly nabbing Business Insider's Car of the Year award.

This week, Jaguar turned up the hotness factor even further with the global unveiling of the high-performance F-PACE SVR at the 2018 New York International Auto Show.

Jaguar Land RoverAt the heart of the beast is Jaguar Land Rover's trusty 5.0-liter, supercharged V8 that's found in everything from the F-Type sports car to the ultra-lux Range Rover Autobiography.

Here, it produces a healthy 550 horsepower and 502-pound-feet of torque thanks to the engineering work done by the Jag's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) group.

Making its debut at the North American International Auto Show 2018 this week, the newest member of the PACE family packs Jaguar’s 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine with its 502 lb-ft. of torque.

Top speed is 176 mph, making it the fastest F-PACE to-date.

It’s not just the raw grunt that’s new, mind; Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) team has made plenty of other changes, too.

The chassis has been upgraded, with progressive springs that are 30-percent stiffer at the front and 10-percent at the back.

There’s a new anti-roll system which, Jaguar says, cuts body-roll by 5-percent, too.

New, lightweight forced 21- and 22-inch alloy wheels cut as much as 5.3-pounds from the front of the car and 3.7 pounds at the rear.

Chevrolet has given its full-sized SUV a sporting upgrade, with the 2019 Suburban RST Performance Package proving you don’t need an Escalade to get beefy V8 power.

The automaker’s 6.2-liter V8 has been shoveled under the SUV’s hood, delivering 420 horsepower and a hefty 460 lb-ft. of torque.

Indeed, there’s a whole lot of overlap between this new RST Performance Package for the Suburban, and what you might find in a Cadillac dealership.

The V8 is paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, for example, with narrower steps between each ratio.

There’s also Magnetic Ride Control, the active suspension that can adjust the strength of the dampers every 5ms, depending on the road surface.

It’s the same technology which allows the Escalade to various waft when cruising but corner with less body-roll.

The Tesla Model 3 arrived with a whoosh on Friday night, leaving some tech and automotive writers a little breathless and blushing.

Wired gasps its “much more than an electric car.” Mashable swoons the Model 3 is “pretty damn awesome.” Business Insider has a topper, saying “the entire world will want this car.” Others getting a few minutes behind the wheel — Tesla limited exposure — found it quite fetching.

Motor Trend reviewer Kim Reynolds spun through a Southern California roads, accompanied by a company executive.

Reynolds raved about the handling, feel and the “nearly-nil body roll” on turns.

The bestselling sedan in the country this year is the Toyota Camry, a workhorse that starts around $23,000 and gets 33 mpg on the highway.

The first Tesla production Model 3s rolling off the Fremont factory floor carry a $49,000 sticker price and a 310-mile range.

Last year at the Chicago Auto Show, Dodge uncovered the Durango SRT with a Hemi V8 under the hood pumping out 475 horsepower.

For this year's Chicago show, Dodge will again be making some Durango-related news with the debut of new Mopar performance parts and optional styling touches.

For people who don't think the Durango R/T or Durango SRT sound mean enough, Mopar is rolling out a performance exhaust system developed with the help of SRT engineers.

The stainless steel exhaust system features 4-inch tips and is available now for the R/T with a retail price of $1,595.

The SRT system will arrive in dealers during the second quarter of 2018 with a $1,850 price tag.

Mopar will also release a performance suspension spring kit for the Durango SRT in March that drops the ride height by 0.6-inches to reduce squat during acceleration, brake drive and body roll in corners.

Subaru fans understandably lost their minds when news broke about the limited-edition WRX STI Type RA coming to the US.

The model celebrates Subaru's successful Nürburgring lap record attempt for a four-door sedan with the WRX STI Type RA NBR Special race car and accordingly gets a full slate of go-faster goodies.

A lower third gear ratio in the six-speed manual transmission also helps liven up acceleration a smidge.

Weight reduction is another big part of the Type RA package, with a carbon fiber roof, forged BBS wheels and the deletion of the spare tire working together to trim 68 pounds.

On mountain roads outside of Palm Springs, California, these upgrades don't seem to result in any meaningful increase in driving performance.

The Type RA's turn-in response is a hair quicker, body roll is better controlled through corners and rocketing out of bends in third gear is a slightly brisker experience.

Thanks to the addition of electronically adaptive Fox Racing Shox Live Valve suspension, this year's Raptor will deliver, "a greater level of driving refinement on-road," says program manager Tony Greco.

The suspension is fundamentally similar to the Fox Racing shock absorbers that were already employed by the Raptor, but now with a solenoid that allows the truck's computer to constantly adjust the damping force at each corner.

For instance, for road driving, the suspension stiffens more as your speed increases, and when cornering the outside dampers will stiffen to reduce body roll.

In the off-road mode, the suspension damping will generally be much softer, for compliance and handling.

The software has a special Jump mode that detects when the front tires are off the ground and stiffens the shocks pro-actively, preventing bottoming out the truck when you land.

The new shocks also don't change any of the Raptor's impressive off-road statistics; it still has 13.0 inches of front and 13.9 inches of rear suspension travel and a 30-degree approach angle.

In the pre-internet and crossover SUV days, packing the whole family into the station wagon and setting off across the country was just something you did every summer.

As the only one of those offering a 603 horsepower 4.0-liter V8, the Mercedes AMG E63 S wagon is a serious German muscle wagon.

I’d start my day in the 469-Horsepower GLC 63 SUV along with a 170-mile route heading east out of Nashville and through the backwoods of Tennessee and Kentucky, to our destination, NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Entering the Tennessee highway, I moved my hand over and toggled the AMG Dynamic select into Sport+, the transmission makes a smooth downshift, the exhaust lets out two bangs, and the suspension stiffens.

The extra body roll you encounter due to the higher center of gravity causes your brain to lift off the throttle earlier when entering a turn quickly.

In the GLC 63, the AMG-tuned active systems work together to attempt to rebalance the center of gravity, which in turn helps to provide a more sedan-like feeling.

Rolls-Royce has unveiled its new 2018 Phantom - and called it, somewhat unsurprisingly, the New Phantom.

What's more, it's apparently most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce ever.

It has an "all-new" 563bhp 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine that can do 0-60mph in 5.3secs; an "all-new" all-aluminium spaceframe architecture bringing a "whole new level" of comfort evident in its Magic Carpet Ride thanks to being lighter and stiffer (30 per cent more rigid than the previous iteration, in fact); a new Gallery dashboard (more of which later); and a "wholly new" contemporary design.

The car also has Rolls-Royce's latest generation of self-levelling air suspension that makes millions of calculations each second as it continuously varies the electronically controlled shock absorbers, reacting to body roll and acceleration.

The satellite-aided transmission, which originated from BMW, pre-selects gears based on the behaviour of the driver and its location geographically, no doubt making your ride even smoother.

The Phantom uses a stereo camera system housed in the windscreen to monitor the road ahead, adjusting the suspension proactively at speeds of up to 100km/h.

The most straightforward way to go hooning is to vacuum up the straights until, so close to the next corner, the area around your tailbone is twitching, and then rely on the excellent brakes to shed speed and thus help avoid body roll or understeer.

That's even without the road-surface scan system, which uses cameras to spot bumps in the asphalt ahead and plan the suspension settings accordingly.

Soft, supple leather; gentle warmth; and the insistent pulsing of pseudo-shiatsu massage at your back.

Mercedes thankfully includes a reasonable number of dedicated buttons and switches, including the basics for the HVAC system, audio, and seat adjustment, but if you stop there you miss out on many of the more thoughtful touches.

The "Dynamic Multicontour Seats" for instance, which individually and swiftly inflate the side bolsters to support you as you're cornering, are so pleasing that I've missed them on every car since.

The buttons have just the right degree of dampening and resistance; the detailing of things like the knurled vent controls, the etched metal window switches, and the copious quantities of carefully stitched leather is sublime.

Nestling in-between the Flying Spur V8 – which is as entry level as a Bentley sedan gets – and the W12-engined original, the new 2017 Flying Spur V8 S is all about eager affordability.

Feel free to put as many air-quotes around affordability as it takes to stomach the $205,000 starting price, drop your weary, wealthy body into the supple leather seats, and try to get with the old-school charm.

Bentley starts with the same, 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine as the existing car, but tunes it for 521 HP and 502 lb-ft. of torque, compared to 500 HP and 487 lb-ft.

It helps nudge the top speed up, too, from an already-ridiculous 183 mph to 190 mph; if you want to break the 200 mph barrier you ll need the Flying Spur W12 S, which blasts 202 mph from its vast, 6-liter engine.

All-wheel drive is standard, and frankly it s entirely necessary, too: this is a 5,329 pound car, and coaxing it around corners requires a little restraint.

Carry too much pace as the turns tighten and you ll get a little body-roll but a fair amount of tire squeal.
