In the wake of Turkey s failed military coup, this reporter thought she got her hands on a piece of extremely important information.

But that didn t really turn out to be the case.

For an exclusive news segment on Turkish TV, she showed her incredible find — secret military codes that were used during the events in Istanbul.

However, in the close-up it turns out the codes are actually GTA 4 cheats for health, guns and armor.

The reporter tells the viewers something that roughly translates to this:

This is how they communicate in secrets.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a highly detailed open world game that really leans into the idea of realism.

From lifelike character animations to weather to certain horse parts, RDR2 wants you to feel like you’re in America’s heartland circa 1899.

Still, RDR2 is a video game, and it’s a virtual playground filled with fun and hilarious possibilities.

That’s where cheat codes come in to spice things up.

Like RDR, there are a variety of cheat codes you can enter in to turn the realism notch down a tad and see what kind of trouble you can get into.

p Rather than continuing to drop the ban hammer on Pokémon Go cheats, developer Niantic has found an even better way to deal with them; troll them with the most common monsters.

The so-called botters use scanners to track down the rarest Pokémon critters, but instead of banning the accounts, Niantic has taken to flagging them.

Now the illicit accounts will only be seeing the likes of Pidgey and no rare spawns at all.

The folks at the Reddit page, the Silph Road, who discovered the new tactic are calling this flag a ‘shadowban.’

“Midday Saturday EST, reports started emerging that something was amiss in botting communities,” the page says (via ArsTechnica).

"Some accounts suddenly stopped finding Pokemon at certain known spawnpoints.

Almost a month after the app took the world by storm, Pokémon Go has now been updated with some major changes that should make it more difficult to cheat in the game.

Developer Niantic pushed out versions 1.1.0 and 1.1.1 of the game over the weekend, and there are some notable upgrades and downgrades.

For starters, the footprints that used show up below Pokémon inside of the "Nearby" section of the game have been removed.

Another feature that got removed was the battery saver mode.

With battery saver mode turned on, the screen would go black when your phone was held upside down, and then it'd vibrate only when a new Pokémon spawned or when you were at a PokéStop.

Also speaking from experience, the mode frequently glitched and didn't work.

Turkey is still recovering from the attempted coup that took place last month, which was orchestrated by a faction within the country s military.

Many Turkish reporters are trying to uncover facts about what happened that night, but it seems one presenter was a bit over-optimistic when she pulled a notebook from some garbage.

It did contain codes, but rather than being related to the coup, which she was convinced of, they were actually cheat codes for Grand Theft Auto IV.

There are some interesting notes found in the garbage which are thrown by Gulenists supporters of the coup , the ATV Ana Haber news reporter says to the camera.

The writings in this notebook look like codes for the coup.

She then reads off the labels found next to the codes: health and weapon, health and armor, weather, helicopter, motorcycle.

It took them a year, but researchers have finally found the mechanism that Volkswagen used to cheat emissions tests, buried in lines of code published on the company's own website.

A team of computer scientists at the University of California San Diego trawled through copies of the code, which ran on Volkswagen's onboard computers for models including the 2009-2015 model year Volkswagen Jetta, Beetle and Golf.

According to the researchers' report [PDF], the code allowed vehicles to detect when they were undergoing emissions testing and activate a "defeat device" to cut down on emissions.

If the car determined it wasn't being tested, it would disable these emissions controls, leading some cars to emit up to 40 times the allowed levels of nitrogen oxides.

Volkswagen issued a statement indicating that 11 million vehicles contained the illegal code.

While the researchers said "Volkswagen's cheating was breathtaking in scope," they noted the code was publicly available on the company's maintenance website and on forums run by car enthusiasts.

A screenshot from Tom Clancy's The Division Ubisoft

Since the release of Tom Clancy's The Division in March, French developer Ubisoft has struggled to curb the rampant use of cheats, hacks and exploits in its post-apocalyptic third-person shooter.

In a blog post on 9 June, the developer has announced its most aggressive measure yet to rid the game of cheaters.

Following the introduction of new cheat detection methods in April, Ubisoft said they cracked down on more than 30,000 accounts for cheating last month, doling out 3,800 permanent bans in its "biggest wave of suspensions and bans to date."

"Judging from your feedback, and based on what we witnessed when cheaters came back to the game, we have now decided to push our policy one step further: we will now start applying permanent bans on first offense when players are caught using cheat engines and we will communicate clearly when new ban waves are taking place."

Still, Ubisoft's new aggressive stance will come as a welcome move for many frustrated fans who have threatened to leave the game due to a litany of issues, particularly its PC version.

Ubisoft recently implemented a similar policy on cheating in Rainbow Six Siege as well, following Blizzard's own announcement to clamp down on cheaters prior to the launch of its popular multiplayer shooter, Overwatch.

Rockstar Games is cracking down on people who cheat on GTA 5, by draining money from their in-game accounts.

The publisher is targeting gamers who use cheats, glitches or "mods" to boost their bank balance.

In a statement the company said: "We have removed illegitimately gained in-game money from player accounts.

"If you received an alert saying that your shared bank balance was adjusted, that is because you had illegitimate funds in your account."

Players on forums have reported losses in the billions, or trillions of in-game dollars.

It's the latest move by Rockstar in their bid to rid the franchise of cheats.

With the advent of virtual reality and the proliferation of virtual currencies, the gaming experience has evolved into something far greater in recent years.

This is perhaps illustrated most famously by last summer’s World of Warcraft gold-stealing script incident.

Just last week, hackers were back in the industry’s crosshairs with Microsoft’s move against Chinese hackers charged with stealing virtual currency.

Long before the likes of Oculus and Vive, gamers’ eyes like mine were instead focused on the possibility of hacking games to beat whatever challenge was ahead — finding cheat codes, exploiting bugs, modding, and so forth.

For proof, look no further than UnKnoWnCheaTs, a forum which surfaced back in the early days and has since grown to nearly two million members who swap game hacks and cheats.

However, while internet-accelerated growth created amazing new opportunities for these companies, it also brought about new challenges they were not even remotely prepared for — chief among them, keeping their systems buttoned up while also keeping up with explosive demand.

Microsoft and Rockstar Games have added Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City to the Xbox One's extensive catalogue of Xbox 360 titles which have been made backwards compatible.

If you own either game on 360 you can insert the disk into your Xbox One and download the title, or download it if they were bought digitally.

You can also purchase the games outright, on disc Amazon has GTA 4 from £7.50 and Episodes for £8.41 or as a download through the Xbox One store.

Episodes from Liberty City includes the two DLC expansions released for GTA 4 - The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony - as standalone titles.

If you purchased either expansion separately with GTA 4, they will also be available on Xbox One.

One of the most popular aspects of Grand Theft Auto is the cheat code system, which has been ever-present in the series, even featuring in 2013's Grand Theft Auto 5 despite cheat codes becoming quite rare in the industry.

Germany has already levied fines against Volkswagen and Audi for their roles in the Dieselgate scandal and the over-polluting cars they sold.

Now, it's Porsche's turn to pay the piper.

Porsche has been hit with a 535 million-euro (about $598 million) fine in Germany for "lapses in supervisory duties" that allowed Dieselgate to occur, Reuters reports.

Of the three VW Group units hit with a fine for similar reasons, Porsche's is the smallest -- Audi paid 800 million euros (about $894 million), while Volkswagen had to eat a 1 billion euro (about $1.2 billion) fine.

All three automakers produced vehicles that did not adhere to legal limits regarding diesel tailpipe emissions.

Some vehicles were gamed to pass regulatory tests, only to emit in excess of the legal limit once on the road.

First it was nylon bags, then it was a head-scratching support ticket glitch, and now the topic shifts to essays.

As it turns out, at least a few Fallout 76 players have been banned, and in order to get the ban lifted, Bethesda is asking them to write essays on the evils of cheating in video games.

News of these bans first started spreading shortly before Christmas, when YouTuber JuiceHead published a video highlighting this strange appeals process.

To hear Bethesda’s reasoning for these bans, the players at the center of all of this were banned for allegedly cheating.

The users claim they weren’t cheating and instead were only using mods for Fallout 76 or reshade tools.
