If you enjoy plugging headphones into your iPhone, cover your ears: the supplier of Apple’s headphone dongle says that the next three iPhones won’t have the stalwart converter in the box.

The supplier is called Cirrus Logic and, according to a Barclays research note, they’ve confirmed that Apple will no longer include that $9 (about £6, AU$12) Lightning-to-3.5mm aux jack converter in every box, starting with the next generation of iPhones that Apple will unveil next month.

Recently, we heard reports that Apple might cut the adapter out of the iPad Pro package, and analysts predicted that the iPhone might be a target back in early May, but now it appears that decision has already been made.

Apple has provided an adapter with every new iPhone since the launch of the iPhone 7, all the way through to the most recent launch, the iPhone X.

From the sounds of things, that could all come to a screeching halt in the near future.

While a statement from the manufacturer seems pretty conclusive, nothing’s set in stone at this point – Apple hasn’t publicly confirmed the information.

If you enjoy plugging headphones into your iPhone, cover your ears: the supplier of Apple’s headphone dongle says that the next three iPhones won’t have the stalwart converter in the box.

The supplier is called Cirrus Logic and, according to a Barclays research note, they’ve confirmed that Apple will no longer include that $9 (about £6, AU$12) Lightning-to-3.5mm aux jack converter in every box, starting with the next generation of iPhones that Apple will unveil next month.

Recently, we heard reports that Apple might cut the adapter out of the iPad Pro package, and analysts predicted that the iPhone might be a target back in early May, but now it appears that decision has already been made.

Apple has provided an adapter with every new iPhone since the launch of the iPhone 7, all the way through to the most recent launch, the iPhone X.

From the sounds of things, that could all come to a screeching halt in the near future.

While a statement from the manufacturer seems pretty conclusive, nothing’s set in stone at this point – Apple hasn’t publicly confirmed the information.

Apple supplier Cirrus Logic has released a new reference design for headphone makers to quickly develop new headphones that feature Lightning connectors.

The MFi Headset Development Kit will make it much easier for manufacturers to produce headphones that connect through a Lightning port, not a traditional 3.5mm audio jack.

Speculation that Apple has plans to abandon the traditional 3.5mm audio jack on the iPhone – forcing users to use the Lightning port instead – has been rampant in recent months.

Cirrus Logic, which develops audio technology for Apple, could be hinting at Apple s future intentions for the iPhone with this latest revelation.

The MFi Headset Development Kit demonstrates the advantages of Lightning-connected headsets over conventional analog headsets, reads a Cirrus press release.

The Wall Street Journal reported on June 21 that Apple is planning to remove the standard headphone jack from its next iPhone.

That confirmed some previous leaks by gadget blogs from earlier in the year.

It also helped Cirrus s stock top the $40 mark for the first time in nearly four years.

That is because Cirrus is likely the prime beneficiary for such a move, given that its encoding and amplifier chips would be needed for a new class of digital headphones that would plug into the iPhone s Lightning port.
