p THQ Nordic has confirmed that it isn't going to let the Darksiders franchise die, promising to launch a new entry on consoles and Windows PCs some time next year.

The future of the popular Darksiders series of games looked bleak when THQ announced Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2012 and was formally split up and sold off to multiple buyers a year later, until Nordic Games announced it was rebranding to THQ Nordic.

At the time the newly renamed company promised it would be concentrating on continuing the franchise along with other former THQ titles including Destroy All Humans!, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Titan Quest, and Red Faction.

Now, the company is making good on its promises with the announcement that Darksiders III, the first game in the franchise since the demise of the original THQ, will launch in 2018.

'As promised, we have taken our time to ensure that this next Darksiders will be everything action-adventure gamers and especially Darksiders loyalists could dream of and more,' claimed co-founder and group chief executive Lars Wingefors, while revealing that Gunfire Games - comprised primarily of developers who worked on the original Darksiders - will be working on the project under its leadership.

'The Gunfire team brings an intimate involvement with every aspect of the Darksiders franchise since its inception,' claimed THQ Nordic's Reinhard Pollice.

THQ Nordic is announcing today that it is developing Darksiders III with Gunfire Games and the title will debut in 2018.

/p p Lars Wingefors, CEO of Vienna, Austria-based THQ Nordic, said his company (formerly Nordic Games) acquired the rights to Darksiders when it bought the old THQ properties in bankruptcy proceedings in 2013.

Last year, Nordic Games rebranded itself as THQ Nordic, and fans started asking even more if the company would bring back the Darksiders franchise.

THQ Nordic is tapping Gunfire Games in Austin, Texas, because it was founded by key members of Vigil Games, which made the original titles for THQ.

“We’re very excited to share this news with everybody because it has become a dominant topic for us.” /p p The game will star a female character known as Fury, who was briefly referenced in the original Darksiders, which was about War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

“We’ve been thinking about doing a new Darksiders game ever since we acquired it.

THQ Nordic announced today that Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch on September 26, as Gematsu reported.

Darksiders II first came out back in 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC.

This Deathinitive Edition — which came out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015 — includes all of the post-release downloadable content created for the action role-playing game.

The original Darksiders already made its way to Switch in April.

Darksiders III, which came out in November 2018, has yet to find its way to Nintendo’s home console/portable hybrid.

Although we do not have specific sales numbers for the game, THQ Nordic has said that the title was profitable.

Believe it or not, December begins in just two days.

Though it might seem like November passed by in a blur, there is one upside to the end of the month getting here quickly: it’s almost time for a fresh batch of PlayStation Plus games.

Sony unveiled what’s next for PS Plus members on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita today, and the list of free games includes one title most of you will probably be familiar with.

First up on PlayStation 4 is Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition.

Though Darksiders 2 was originally an Xbox 360 and PS3 game, the Deathinitive Edition updates the visuals and packages in all the DLC for modern consoles.

This is a good time to check out the Darksiders series if you haven’t already, as Darksiders 3 will be launching sometime next year.

Last year, publisher Nordic Games and developer Gunfire — comprised partially of former Vigil Games staff — released Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, an updated and enhanced version of the game for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

This left current-gen console owners with Death s underrated adventure, but they couldn t play the game that kicked off the series.

That s about to chance, as Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is on its way.

Developed for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Wii U, Darksiders: Warmastered Edition features native 1080p resolution, along with improvements to the rendering system, shadows, and post processing effects.

Texture resolutions have also been doubled, which may stand as the largest improvement from the original version of the game.

While Darksiders and its sequel use a vibrant, comic-inspired art style, it came at the cost of fidelity, with faces and certain environments lacking the detail we expect from AAA action games.

If your wallet’s hurting and you’re looking for something to play in December, next month’s PlayStation Plus offerings include a great PlayStation 4 remaster of a last console generation favorite — Darksiders II.

Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition includes all of the stellar action role-playing content from the original base game, along with a trio of story expansions and a slew of additional weapons.

You play as Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, on a quest to prove his brother’s innocence and, of all things, bring humanity back to life.

The Darksiders series has often been compared to The Legend of Zelda, and with Darksiders III scheduled for a 2018 launch, it seems like the perfect time to revisit Death, or embrace it for the first time.

The other freebie for PS4 this month is decidedly underwhelming, though.

The laboriously titled Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legends pits up to four characters from the movie franchise’s universe against one another in 2.5D fights.

p After almost five years of waiting, we now know that Darksiders 3 is indeed on its way, and it looks stunning.

Original publisher THQ and developer Vigil Games are no more, but the Darksiders franchise — and the four horsemen of the apocalypse — will still ride on.

Darksiders 3 is indeed in development, and protagonist Fury mixes up the series’ signature combat and traversal with a whip straight out of Castlevania.

Darksiders 3 has not yet been officially confirmed by publisher THQ Nordic, which purchased the rights to the THQ name following the publisher’s liquidation.

An Amazon listing was spotted this morning, which not only detailed the game’s characters and new features, but also included several beautiful screenshots that appear to be a significant improvement from the last-generation games, as well as their current-generation remasters.

Still using the signature comic book-inspired art style that made the original games instantly recognizable, everything is given an appropriate amount of contemporary sheen, and the game’s dilapidated environments look as good as anything we’ve seen from the series before.

p Darksiders 3, the anticipated sequel to 2010's cult action RPG, has been announced for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The official announcement followed a leak from Amazon which revealed the first story details and screenshots.

IGN was meant to exclusively reveal the game as part of its IGN First series, but they had to settle for revealing the first trailer instead.

More will be revealed about the game on IGN throughout May.

The game stars a new protagonist, called Fury, who is a sister of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, two of which starred in the previous Darksiders games.

Set during the events of Darksiders 2, the game will see Fury hunt down embodiments of the Seven Deadly Sins.

p Once upon a time, we weren’t sure if we’d ever see another Darksiders game.

For a while there, it looked like the franchise would go down with the bankruptcy of THQ.

Now, THQ Nordic has officially confirmed Darksiders 3 after an Amazon listing was posted earlier today, delivering a launch trailer for the game along with a handful of screenshots and concept art images.

In Darksiders 3, players will take up the mantle of Fury, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Fury is the rider of the black horse, and has been tasked with destroying the seven deadly sins.

The launch trailer THQ Nordic has released shows Fury accepting her quest and even having an encounter with War, the protagonist of the first game.

But the biggest one was we had just finished Darksiders 2, so we were in a lull — whereas almost every other studio was about to ship something and so looked more valuable.”5

Vigil had just started working on a new project, but didn’t have much that might seduce potential buyers who wanted something they could sell to consumers as soon as possible.

It took the puzzles and exploration from Nintendo’s heavy-hitter, but introduced God of War-style combat and an unconventional setting.

Even though Vigil was gone, that legacy persisted, and a lot of the team finally got snatched up.

The first two Darksiders games have gained something of a cult following over the years.

When THQ shuttered its doors in 2013, many worried we'd seen the last of the video game franchise about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Thankfully, THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games managed to save the franchise and now, five years later, we have the story of Fury, the third (and only female) member of the quartet.

I've played one other Gunfire Games title, Chronos, which remains one of my favorite VR games.

Here's the first trailer for Darksiders III, which was officially unveiled after a number of leaks:

Darksiders III is out in less than a week, and publisher THQ Nordic is taking a rather unorthodox approach to building up player interest in the action-adventure game.

If you’re having trouble falling asleep, you can now watch the game’s protagonist Fury sooth you with her own ASMR series.

Partnering with video creator and body paint artist Ruby True, the Darksiders III ASMR — Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response — series shows Fury using some of her special abilities, including fire conjuring.

In full makeup and costume, Fury holds enormous flames in her hands and swings them from side to side — they crackle and hiss as they go through the air.

Typically, ASMR videos are designed to relax the viewer, but this one is rather unsettling, particularly because you can’t see Fury’s pupils.

At one point, Fury sticks one of the torches in her mouth, and if that is relaxing to you, then you are in the video’s very small target demographic.

The latter comes in at $399.99 (around £300, AU$540) and includes the game’s soundtrack, a Four Horsemen amulet, a 30-inch-by-40-inch wall scroll plus four 11-inch statues of the series’ main characters, a Steelbook case, an art book and exclusive cosmetic DLC.

The standard collectors edition, also announced today, includes just one statue, the Steelbook case, the art book, the soundtrack and the exclusive cosmetic DLC - but only costs $149.99 (around £100, AU$200).

Darksiders 3, in case you missed the unveiling at E3 2017 last year, will follow the third horseman of the apocalypse, Fury, as she attempts to bring down the seven deadly sins who have claimed earth as their home.
