At the tail end of October, we learned that Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding is coming to PC.

The launch won’t be happening until sometime next summer, meaning the game will remain a PlayStation 4 exclusive for half a year or more.

While we don’t have a specific release date for the PC version of Death Stranding yet, we did learn some encouraging news about its release over the weekend.

505 Games, which is acting as the publisher on the PC version of Death Stranding, has confirmed that the game will be coming to both the Epic Games Store and Steam simultaneously.

Death Stranding is up for pre-order on both platforms now, with 505 Games sharing the appropriate store links in the tweet you see embedded below.

After months of speculation, it’s been officially announced that Death Stranding is coming to PC – and it will arrive on gaming computers “early summer of 2020”.

The revelation comes from Hideo Kojima himself, the iconic creator of Death Stranding (and best known for the Metal Gear Solid series of games).

Get ready to play with one of our best gaming PCs

That means that Death Stranding is no longer a PS4 exclusive – though PlayStation gamers are getting the game (much) earlier, with it launching on PS4 on November 8, 2019.

Death Stranding is out today, and if you’re still not sure what to make of it now that the reviews have landed and the dust has settled a bit, you probably aren’t alone.

The latest from Hideo Kojima is definitely a weird one, but the seems to be working in the game’s favor.

That’s because – at the time of this writing, at least – Death Stranding is the most-watched game on Twitch and it isn’t even close.

Looking at the image below, you’ll see that Death Stranding currently has 245,000 viewers on Twitch, enough to put it comfortably in first place.

League of Legends, one of the most consistently popular games on Twitch, is in second place with 133,000 viewers at the moment.

Obviously, these numbers fluctuate frequently, but the point is that the gaming public seems pretty interested in checking out what Death Stranding is laying down.

We're creeping ever closer to the release of Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding and yet, with just three months to go, we're still in the dark as to what exactly the game is about.

However it seems we'll be getting a closer look at the title during Gamescom 2019, according to Geoff Keighley.

Keighley is hosting Gamescom 2019's Opening Night Live, pre-conference stream live from Cologne that promises announcements and new content from the likes of 2K, Square Enix and Google Stadia (among many others).

In addition, Keighley has announced Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima will also be making an appearance during the show to "premiere a exclusive look at Death Stranding".

Check out the tweet below:

We already knew Death Stranding is coming to PC in 2020, but the question remained: which store front would it be coming to?

We now know that Death Stranding will release for PC on both the Epic Games Store and Steam - at the same time.

In addition, pre-orders on each store are available now, with a base price of £54.99 / $60.

We half expected Death Stranding to land on Epic Games Store, as PC publisher 505's previous title Control was an Epic Game Store exclusive, but a Steam listing is a welcome surprise.

Unfortunately, outside of the already known "summer 2020" release date, neither listing tells us more about Death Stranding on PC.

That means we still have no idea of the PC specs or requirements for Kojima's epic - but hopefully this will become clearer in the coming weeks or months.

Last month, Hideo Kojima revealed that a director’s cut of Death Stranding for the PS5 was on the way — and now we actually have some details on what it will include. Like the Ghost of Tsushima director’s cut, the new version of Death Stranding appears to be more of an enhanced remake than a traditional director’s cut.

Among the added features are new story missions, more battles with “advanced combat mechanics,” a Metal Gear Solid-style firing range, a cargo catapult for delivering... less fragile goods, a robot buddy who seemingly can carry you around, and, for some reason, a race track. You can get a good sense of all the changes in the trailer above.

This will mark the third platform Death Stranding is available on. The game debuted...

"Death Stranding," which is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 4 on Friday, is the first release from Kojima's independent studio.

Death Stranding was first announced back at E3 2016 to a confused and excited crowd.

And since that announcement, those feelings haven't changed much – they just swayed more into the confusion side.

We've seen bottled babies, sea otter costumes and even the appearance of Conan O'Brien, and every new trailer has filled us more with fear than hype.

But we can definitively say that Death Stranding is good.

It's not just good, in fact, it's incredible.

So much so that we awarded it our first five star rating (for gaming) of the year in our Death Stranding review.

Hideo Kojima, who was part of a “Master Storyteller” panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, surprised the audience by revealing the final box art for his cryptic Death Stranding, as he talked about the game, Keanu Reeves, and streaming.

Kojima revealed the cover of the Standard Edition of Death Stranding, as well as the Steelbook that will be part of the $70 Special Edition and the $200 Collector’s Edition.

Both covers’ art feature Sam Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, “who must brave a world utterly transformed by the Death Stranding, and save mankind by reconnecting a fractured society.”

In the SDCC panel, Kojima also talked about Keanu Reeves, who was originally tapped to become a part of the Death Stranding cast.

The famed video game director, however, said that he picked Mads Mikkelsen, while Reeves is now featured as a major character in another highly-anticipated title, Cyberpunk 2077.

Kojima also had something to say about the battle royale trend, which has spawned the likes of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite, and Apex Legends.

We've collated all the teasers so far, and dived into its world, the famous faces involved and a few of the gameplay elements.

Death Stranding is the first game from Kojima Productions, a studio founded by legendary game developer Hideo Kojima.

The latest Death Stranding teaser

The most recent trailer (well, teaser) came at the Tokyo Game Show in 2018, revealing Troy Baker's character wearing a Gold half-mask and summoning a terrifying tentacle-lion beast.

What's clear from the gameplay segments of the trailer is that Death Stranding will tackle loneliness and sacrifice.

These explorers are shown stumbling, falling into water currents and trying to keep heavy burdens balanced as they cross over chasms.

We’re not still quite sure what Death Stranding is, and each new trailer only leaves us with more questions.

Death Stranding is releasing next month, and if, like many, it’s going to be a first-day buy for you, then now’s your chance to score this Limited Edition PlayStation 4 Pro bundle which just became available for pre-order.

The development history behind Death Stranding is almost as interesting as the game itself.

It’s the first creation of Kojima Productions, the new studio founded by Kojima, the iconic Japanese developer, in the wake of his falling out with Konami.

Before Kojima’s abrupt departure from his former employer, his latest project was a horror game titled Silent Hills which was being co-developed with input from film director Guillermo del Toro.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about Death Stranding, but what we do know is that it is built on the powerful Fox Engine (that made its debut with Metal Gear Solid V) and is an action-adventure game with stealth elements set in a bleak post-apocalyptic open-world setting.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is coming to the PS5 on September 24th — but don’t call it a director’s cut, according to director Hideo Kojima (spotted by Eurogamer).

“A director’s cut in a movie is an additional edit to a shortened version that was either released reluctantly because the director did not have the right to edit it, or because the running time had to be shortened,” Kojima explained on Twitter this morning. “In the game, it is not what was cut, but what was additionally produced that was included. Delector’s [sic] Plus? So, in my opinion, I don’t like to call ‘director’s cut’.”

We knew Hideo Kojima was going to make an appearance at Gamescom: Opening Night Live to premiere new footage from Death Stranding, but it was probably too hopeful of us to think his appearance would be straightforward.

While the gaming auteur certainly tried to explain Death Stranding, and in particular the baby we see Norman Reedus carrying about, it still manged to be a convoluted affair.

Sony Music’s role in Hideo Kojima’s highly anticipated Death Stranding may hint at what gamers should expect from the soundtracks of PlayStation 5 exclusives.

One of the interesting features of Death Stranding is that it will include music from real-world artists.

When players finally take control of protagonist Sam Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, they will be able to hear songs from the likes of Chvrches and Bring Me The Horizon as they navigate through the game’s open world.

Sony Music Group will roll out an official soundtrack for the game alongside its release.

Death Stranding: Timefall by RCA Records will be headlined by more Sony-signed artists such as Khalid and Alan Walker, whose original recordings are integrated into some of the open-world title’s most important moments.

Sony Music Group CEO & Chairman, Rob Stringer said in a New York event last month that Kojima’s new creation will “innovate for the first time on how music is embedded in a game.” Sony insiders told Rolling Stone that Death Stranding is being considered as an “important benchmark” for what is expected to be a deeper creative collaboration between PlayStation and Sony Music, ahead of the launch of the PlayStation 5 in 2020.
