Some days, you just don’t want to speak to anyone.

Heck, maybe it’s every day of this soul-crushing dystopian timeline.

Regardless, on those days, even minimal human interaction can sound like an obstacle you’re simply unwilling to languidly flop over.

Burger King Finland has your back.

Noting that Finns generally hate small talk, something that’s largely unavoidable in the traditional food-ordering process, Helsinki agency Superson created a Silent Drive-Thru option for locations in Finland.

The stunt, which sparked discussion in Finnish news outlets and some international coverage when it was launched earlier this year, was aimed at promoting the local Burger King app.

A wildly popular beauty and barbershop in Seattle's well-to-do Capitol Hill neighborhood, Emerson rarely has an empty chair or unfilled appointment--even though Garcia, along with his business partner Matt Buchan, has no training in hairstyling whatsoever.

"Matt and I wanted to experiment and see if we could leverage social media for a local business--something hyperlocal," says Garcia, who helped the Geffen music label Drive-Thru Records pioneer online strategies in 2004 and attracted half a million online followers to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign in 2008.

The results speak for themselves.

NutshellMail: This free service brings regularly delivered reports to users via e-mail on social media activity, including comments from Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter and reviews from Yelp, Citysearch and Foursquare.

TweetDeck: Similar to HootSuite, TweetDeck connects users to practically any social media service.

"Social media has allowed us to really reach into our local community, build relationships and drive traffic into the salon," says Garcia, who uses several tools to monitor his business's social media footprint, track customer buzz and grow his already-thriving business.

McDonald's headquarters and franchisees are investing millions of dollars to speed up drive-thru times after six years of increasingly long waits.

On Monday, McDonald's announced a new program to encourage certain franchisees to upgrade their drive-thrus, according to internal documents obtained by Business Insider.

McDonald's announced in March it would acquire Dynamic Yield in a $300 million deal and add new AI capabilities to drive-thrus.

The fast-food giant has been making behind-the-scenes tweaks to speed up drive-thru, like cutting menu items, adding new tech, and having workers compete with other locations on service times.

But, the fast-food giant is willing to invest millions of dollars to reverse the trend.

Across the industry, drive-thru times had increased by 20 seconds, with customers spending an average of 255 seconds from speaker to order window in 2019.
