Google is introducing today an updated version of its Google Earth service with new features designed to make it more social and interactive. The company has a splashy launch event planned this morning at the Whitney Museum of Modern Art in New York City that’s aimed at highlighting the media partnerships it has struck to leverage the new features in Google Earth.Chief among them is “Voyager,” an expanded, interactive guided tour feature that offers specialized stories created with “some of the world’s leading storytellers, scientists and nonprofits to bring the planet to life with…a showcase of interactive guided tours,” wrote Gopal Shah, Google Earth product manager, in a blog post. These include such tours as “Natural Treasures,” a collaboration with BBC Earth that takes viewers through a series of habitats to explore the different wildlife found there.

There’s also a tour of Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania, narrated by Jane Goodall.

Google said there are now more than 50 stories in Voyager and that it plans to add more each week. The company has also brought in a version of its search engine’s “I’m feeling lucky” feature.

Now, when a user clicks on that button in Google Earth, it will take them to one of 20,000 random destinations that were curated by Google staff. Finally, a new 3D button will allow users to see a site from any angle.

If a user wants to share it, they can send the view as a postcard to someone else. These new features are available today for Google Chrome browser and Android users.

The company says it will bring them to other platforms later this year.

NASA astronaut Anne McClain on the International Space Station has adopted a plushie anthropomorphic Earth toy as the newest member of the crew.

Little Earth rode along on the history-making SpaceX Crew Dragon Demo-1 mission over the weekend.

SpaceX founder Elon Musk tweeted photos of the stuffed toy on March 1, calling it a "super high tech zero-g indicator."

There's a long history of astronauts and cosmonauts taking small toys along on launches.

When the toy floats, it indicates the spacecraft has reached microgravity.

That was little Earth's job initially, but now it's getting the full ISS experience thanks to McClain.

Thus, the rise in the hybrid electric vehicles market is boosting the rare earth metals market growth. Due to their various superior properties, rare earth metals have a wide range of applications in several industries. The usage of rare-earth elements in permanent magnet applications is enhanced which is resulting in rising the rare-earth metals market. Thus, Asia-Pacific is expected to be the largest consumer and producer of the rare earth metal market. North America is also expected to hold the significant share for the largest extraction of rare earth metals.

the Nasa craft is in orbit around the asteroid Bennu.

Before landing, researchers have discovered the outbreaks that can be a completely new kind of activity.

Bennu was discovered 20 years ago, and the asteroid is closest to 500 000 kilometres from us.

Nasa spacecraft Osiris-Rex will explore the near-earth object, and get a soil sample back to earth.

Since december is the craft in orbit around the asteroid, which measures 550x280x200 metres.

In place, it has been shown that Bennu is covered by more than 200 large boulders.

David Holland, director of NYU's Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science, and his wife, Denise, were asleep in a tent a mile away from Greenland’s main ice sheet one June morning a few years back.

At 3am, the couple woke to the sound of a block of ice twice the size of the Empire State Building breaking off the main shelf.

Denise filmed the calving; it took 40 minutes for the piece to clear the shelf and melt into the ocean.

Back in New York, Holland uses data collected in the field to build physical models of the Earth’s oceans to help NYU undergraduates understand the impact of climate change on rising sea levels and shifts in ocean temperature.

A few ago, Holland moved into a ground floor lab on the corner of Mercer Street and Washington Place in NoHo, a location favored for its "seismic quietness"—the distance to the nearest subway.

the Same feeling humans have had for thousands of years.

if you Have thrown an eye on the news the past few weeks so maybe a sense of hopelessness appeared, writes Science Alert.

In just a couple of weeks, have three hearty hurricanes reached the country, an earthquake with a magnitude of 8,2 broke loose in Mexico, and large forest fires have been raging in Canada.

the Impulse to categorize natural disasters as a sign that the life of man on earth begins to take is the end of the possibly reasonable.

Nearly 50 years since man first walked on the moon, the human race is once more pushing forward with attempts to land on the Earth’s satellite.

This year alone, China has landed a robotic spacecraft on the far side of the moon, while India is close to landing a lunar vehicle, and Israel continues its mission to touch down on the surface, despite the crash of its recent venture.

NASA meanwhile has announced it wants to send astronauts to the moon’s south pole by 2024.

But while these missions seek to further our knowledge of the moon, we are still working to answer a fundamental question about it: how did it end up where it is?

On July 21, 1969, the Apollo 11 crew installed the first set of mirrors to reflect lasers targeted at the moon from Earth.

The subsequent experiments carried out using these arrays have helped scientists to work out the distance between the Earth and moon for the past 50 years.

The word premature is key; the Sun could sterilise the Earth in as few as two billion years, and engulf it in about five to seven billion years when it turns into a red giant.

The answer to this question could tell us about the resiliency of life, and the extreme conditions under which it can survive—or not survive—on Earth, Mars, the frigid subterranean waters of Europa, or some dark corner of the Milky Way.

This eight-legged wee beastie (they measure 0.5 mm in length and can only be seen through a microscope) can endure conditions that boggle the imagination, surviving for up to 30 years without food or water, and enduring temperature extremes of up to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).

It should come as little surprise, therefore, that these animals, which emerged 350 million years ago during the Cambrian Era, have managed to survive no less than five mass extinctions.

Incredibly, they found that these ancient extremophiles will likely survive all natural calamities—from asteroids and supernovae through to gamma-ray bursts and wandering stars—because none of these events are likely to trigger the only thing that can truly destroy all tardigrades: the boiling off of the world’s oceans.

Yes, you read that right—it’ll only be when the oceans boil away and the planet is a dry as a bone that the tardigrade family will meet its demise.
