As cryptocurrencies continue to be a global phenomenon, industries around the world are looking for more ways to incorporate this downright revolutionary technology into their core products and services.

Electronic Arts (EA Games), Sega Games, Konami Holdings Corporations, and Gameloft are some of the most prominent game studios in the world.

The increase in active users was also reflected in the increase in in-game purchases.

Also, today's gamers are quite familiar with in-game currencies, such as the currencies you have when you play Monopoly or mobile games like CandyCrush.

This meant that almost everything you could buy in a game (eg skin, armor, upgrades, etc.)

was of limited value, despite users spending real money to buy them.

p Take-Two Interactive Software delayed Red Dead Redemption 2 this week until 2018.

That’s because the video game publisher isn’t as dependent on its huge launches as it once was.

All of those things help smooth the financial results.

/p p Although Take-Two’s stock price dipped after the Red Dead Redemption 2 announcement yesterday, it’s now back up more than 5 percent today after the company reported earnings exceeded expectations.

Recurrent consumer spending — which includes all sales from DLCs, microtransactions, and in-game currency after someone first buys a game — was also reported to have grown 64 percent year-over-year to a record high, according to Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, in an analyst call today.

/p p The publisher’s focus on online sales— such as updates or downloadable content — will offset the lack of new game launches.

I know you thought the deluge of League of Legends clones from big publishers was over, but you thought wrong.Square Enix is working on Flame x Blaze, a new multiplayer online arena battler for smartphones and tablets.

It s heading into a testing phase soon.

Like popular mobile multiplayer online battle arena MOBA  Vainglory, it features 3-on-3 matches and a large number of characters with different abilities.

A beta will begin in Japan this winter, and Square Enix is promising to release it in North America soon after that.

The MOBA genre is one of the biggest in the world thanks to games like League of Legends, and Flame x Blaze is Square Enix s attempt to capture some of that revenue from the $36.6 billion mobile gaming market.MOBAs are also the most popular esports games.

What appears to be an innocent tweet from Electronic Arts may be hinting that the publisher’s PC games will soon return to Steam, eight years after the launch of its own Origin platform.

The tweet in question features a mug with an Electronic Arts logo, with no caption to explain its purpose.

— Electronic Arts (@EA) October 25, 2019

With steam coming out from the top of the mug, it may be a stretch to think that this tweet alone means that Electronic Arts will make such a major move on how it distributes its PC games.

However, it is supported by recent discoveries made by Redditors, including the first look of the new Steam library user interface that featured Mirror’s Edge Catalyst; someone playing The Saboteur, which is not on sale on Steam; and a new package for Dragon Age II.

Perhaps the most important indicator of Electronic Arts’ pending return to Steam is a test application that will allow players to buy games on Steam, but run them through the Origins launcher.

Somewhere inside Sony PlayStation's new ad to support the launch of Electronic Arts' Star Wars Battlefront II game -- which emerges on Friday -- are a boy and a girl who quite like each other.

You have to wonder, however, about how they show it.

From a very early age, their feelings for each other escalate, but not in an obviously affectionate way.

Indeed, they're trying to wipe each other out.

Oh, the boy might think himself a fine Jedi.

But is he any match for the girl who's just moved in across the road?

In fact, after the beta was released, players discovered play-to-win elements were incorporated into the loot box system in the form of Star Cards.

Even though EA has tweaked this aspect since the backlash, players on Reddit are still complaining about paywalled features of the game.

After several Redditors commented on the tremendous amount of time it takes to unlock Darth Vader (and other heroes), another user pointed out that the powerful character could be accessed earlier if you are willing to spend another $80 on the game.

EA responded to the criticism with the following statement.

“The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.

As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch.

In early October, Electronic Arts and developer Dice released an open beta for Star Wars Battlefront II, and players didn’t take kindly to the “pay-to-win” mechanics they found shoehorned into the multiplayer.

Changes have since been made for the final version of the game, but its progression system continues to draw criticism from fans.

Reddit user TheHotterPotato created a spreadsheet based on the time the user spent with Battlefront II, available early to EA Access subscribers, and estimated that it would take a player nearly 40 hours to acquire enough in-game credits to purchase just one of the top heroes in the game.

Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader both cost 60,000 credits to unlock at the moment, and unlocking all of the heroes available for credits is estimated to take more than seven days.

The user also calculated the cost to purchase loot crates in the game instead of grinding for them, and found that at the United States’ minimum wage, it would take about 14 hours of gainful employment, making that route more than 1,000 percent more efficient than simply playing the game.

Part of the reason behind these ludicrous unlock times is the way Star Wars Battlefront II awards credits.

But it stepped in a pile of controversy by adding an unpopular monetization system known as loot crates.

As of last night, EA decided to back off on the controversial microtransactions for the loot crates.

“We’ve traded one type of evil for another in the form of casting aside DLC for loot crates.”

This kind of sentiment has been expressed about other games, like Middle-earth: Shadow of War, where the final ending was locked behind a number of grind-like missions, and fans fretted that they could shorten that grand by buying loot crates.

But EA’s problem looks worse because Battlefront II — whose predecessor sold 14 million units — is one of the biggest titles of the year.

If you are a developer on this game, imagine the horror.

Electronic Arts continues to reap benefits from its position as the leader in sports games, as both Madden NFL and FIFA Soccer produced solid results on multiple platforms in the most recent quarter.

EA said that more than 50 percent of Madden NFL 18 players engaged in the “Longshot” story mode — the first such narrative in the football series’ 29-year history — through the end of the second fiscal quarter ended September 30.

On top of that, Madden Ultimate Team players are up 25 percent from a year earlier.

In addition, FIFA Mobile grew its unique player based to more than 113 million players, and its other sports games (like NBA Live and Madden) are here, too.

The numbers show that EA Sports fans are gravitating to EA’s games across multiple platforms, and they’re coming back as EA offers new content beyond what is included in the initial games.

“We saw a notable shift to digital in our sports titles and remarkable growth in Ultimate Team,” said EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen in a statement.

PC gaming subscription service Utomik has announced it's adding three Prince of Persia games from Ubisoft to its roster.

The first game available on Utomik now is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003) which will be followed in the following months by Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones.

The $5.95-a-month PC service is a competitor to EA's Origin Access, but has the benefit of supporting more than one publisher with games from Telltale, THQ Nordic, Sega, Codemasters and up to 70 more.

The majority of Utomik games are older but include titles such as Metro: Last Light, Borderlands, Saints Row The Third and The Walking Dead.

In comparison, Origin is able to offer more recent games such as Mass Effect Andromeda, Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 for $4.99 a month.

How would you feel if Electronic Arts suddenly decided that Madden and FIFA weren’t going to be yearly releases anymore?

Those two game series have seen yearly releases for quite some time now, and while some players accept that this is the way sports games works, others lament the fact that they need to buy a new game every year just to stay up-to-date with things like roster changes.

Regardless of how you feel, Electronic Arts chief Andrew Wilson envisions a future where his company may drop yearly Madden and FIFA releases.

In a new interview with Bloomberg, Wilson talks about the possibility of making EA’s sports games a little more long-lasting.

He suggests that EA could one day begin to offer these games as a “365-day, live service,” meaning that they’ll be frequently updated to better emulate the sports leagues they’re based on.

Of course, if EA does decide to change the way it publishes and distributes its sports games, there would likely be additional cost for consumers associated with that.

Gaming publisher EA has announced some changes to its organisational structure that will see a number of its development studios brought under the single banner of EA Worldwide Studios.

In a post on the company's blog, CEO Andrew Wilson said that the formation of EA Worldwide Studios would bring together the "top creative talent" in all of the company's studios "to work on EA's powerful brand portfolio and new IP."

The studios involved in this reorganization include EA Mobile and Maxis led by senior VP Samantha Ryan who will also take on a leadership role in Bioware, known for its successful RPG titles Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

In turn, Ryan will report to Patrick Soderlund who will head up EA Worldwide Studios itself.

Further to this, the Frostbite Engine team will be moving into EA's central Technology group led by the company's CTO Ken Moss.

Essentially it seems that EA is merging its console and mobile divisions and bringing Maxis into the mix.

“The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes,” the EACommunityTeam account wrote.
