One of the hardest parts of following E3 is keeping track of every announcement, reveal and sneak peek that rolls out during the course of the show.

It takes no time at all to forget about That One Big Game that got you standing up and cheering when it was announced because, well, it's been six months and some of the Other Big Games are hitting store shelves.

This is a list of the games that grabbed our attention during E3 2015, only to fade into the background for the next twelve months, resulting is us going, "Ooohhh yeaaah, I forgot about that," or "Wait a sec, is that still happening?"

when we reflect on last year's showcase.

These projects may be potential vaporware - or just announced a little too early - but they are all due for a check-in at E3 2016, if only so we know that they haven't fallen off the face of the Earth.

Top 10 E3 2015 moments

Another year, another Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Before E3 2016 takes over the news channels over the next four days, let's take one last look at the highs of last year's show.

Between the big name veterans like Microsoft and Sony to the newbies - Bethesda and the PC Gaming Show, all eight conferences had amazing and weird highlights that were both memorable and fun to watch.

Despite no new consoles, we still got to play with the brand new Oculus Rift and observe the world of Halo 5 in augmented reality with HoloLens.

Can we take a moment and say wow because E3 has us excited to turn on our PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and PCs again?

The new trailers and info on Fallout 4, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Doom, Uncharted 4, Star Wars Battlefront and so many more games also only increased our impatience for this fall and next year to arrive faster.

Several big name games from the past are returning for another bite of the cherry at this year's E3 games expo in Los Angeles.

Among the titles that will soon be offered back to consumers with improved graphics are Batman: Arkham, Crash Bandicoot, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

It might seem like an easy way for developers to cash in on their past glories, but the producer of another remastered title - Final Fantasy XII - said the work was not as easy as it seemed.

Introduction

has come and gone, and with it came the usual bevy of surprises, reveals, and confirmations of long-running rumors.

E3 2016

But this year, as with every year, some games and hardware that we hoped to see at the show simply didn't materialize.

Maybe they're not quite ready yet, maybe the marketing plans call for a reveal at a later time – or maybe they just plain don't exist and are just the subject of wild speculation.

Whatever the reason, here are 10 games we were sad we didn't see at E3 this year.

WHOOPS!

We scoured the show floor for gems that didn't quite make our top-ten list.

On E3's second day, Ars UK's Mark Walton proposed that I square off against him in a battle of international tastes with our camera crew in tow, and I obliged him.

In terms of this video's "triple-A" games, Sea of Thieves and Gravity Rush 2 each made surprisingly solid showings at this year's conference, with the former offering a fun shout-with-friends experience and the latter finally fulfilling the promise of the original gravity-bending PlayStation Vita platformer.

This is where the big players – Activision, EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Sony, etc – show off their forthcoming multimillion dollar releases to a highly excitable crowd of retailers, investors and journalists.

The two main halls – south and west – are where all the big stands are, which sounds easy to cope with, but they re on either side of the road, connected by a series of raised walkways; getting from one hall to the other involves a 10-minute sprint, either through a glass-walled corridor that turns into an oven under the punishing Californian sun, or along an outside walkway, that also turns into an oven, but has the advantage of rows of food trucks serving over-priced burritos to madding crowds of people in promotional video game T-shirts.

People push and cluster their way through the narrow alleyways between stands carrying big bags of swag – usually black T-shirts and posters and little action figures.

Four days later, everyone is back at LAX, to catch flights across the globe.

Last year Sony caused mass hysteria by announcing an undated Final Fantasy VII, the revival of Last Guardian and a Shenmue 3 Kickstarter.

They could have done this at one of the big consumer shows like PAX, Penny Arcade or EGX, but they did it at E3, because this still feels like the place to go to make a truly global impact.

This year, for the first time, E3 will be hosting a public event in Los Angeles, the ESA has confirmed.

The event, called E3 Live, is free to attend, and is a three-day event held between June 14th and June 16th.

EA Live will also be taking place in London in addition to LA, whereas E3 Live will only be taking place in the latter.

Public past

E3 was previously a pseudo-public event, because the rules governing what constituted a journalist were very lax.

This changed at E3 2007 when the show was significantly downsized and attendance was effectively limited to journalists at established publications.

Anyone interested in attending the event in LA can sign up for tickets for free on the ESA's website.
