Recently the article Alternative Medicine Warning: Some Chinese Herbs May Increase Cancer Risk came to my attention.

Having more than a passing interest in Chinese herbal medicine, I chased down the original article, Population-Based Case-Control Study of Chinese Herbal Products Containing Aristolochic Acid and Urinary Tract Cancer Risk (Lai, Wang, et.

The authors conclude, "Consumption of aristolochic acid-containing Chinese herbal products [mu tong] is associated with an increased risk of cancer of the urinary tract in a dose-dependent manner that is independent of arsenic exposure.

" A long time student of mathematics and a more recent student of public health and biostatistics, I set about critically analyzing this paper.

I have two observations importance of biostatistics in public health management that cause me to personally call to question the validity of the authors' conclusion.

Chuan mu tong is effectively used to treat urinary tract infections and promote lactation in cases of blocked milk ducts.

A man confronted Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Friday while he was out shopping at a fishing shop in Montana.

The man told him he was “the worst human being known to mankind,” according to video of the interaction posted to social media. Carlson appeared to be with his family, because the man said he didn’t care that Carlson’s daughter was there.

Fox News was appalled that Carlson would be bothered while going about his normal, everyday life.

“Ambushing Tucker Carlson while he is in a store with his family is totally inexcusable – no public figure should be accosted regardless of their political persuasion or beliefs simply due to the intolerance of another point of view,” a Fox News spokesperson told media website Mediaite in a statement.

Fox News is outraged when their big-name hosts are ambushed, but it is totally fine with its big-name hosts doing the ambushing. Ambushes were a central part of the show of Bill O’Reilly, who was Fox’s most prominent host for years. (He left in 2017, under the disgrace of a series of sexual harassment allegations.)

Fox News also continued to promote Jesse Watters, O’Reilly’s henchman who went out and did many of the ambushes. In 2009, O’Reilly sent Watters out to harass me while I was on vacation for the weekend in Virginia.

Even after multiple attempts to contact Fox News, the network never offered any explanation or apology for what happened. There was no outrage that I was accosted while going about my personal life, simply because O’Reilly didn’t like that I pointed out that he had made gross comments about a woman who was raped.

I was far from the only person subjected to the Fox News ambush machine. In the three years before O’Reilly went after me, his producers – such as Watters – went after about 50 people. And the ambushes continued after my encounter. There were other journalists, college professors, judges, lawyers, bureaucrats and educators – some of whom were hardly even public figures, especially for a national TV audience.

I was ambushed outside my hotel on vacation. Many others were accosted at their homes. In my case, no one from O’Reilly’s show ever reached out to me beforehand for comment.

Watters also accosted regular, non-public individuals on the street for the sole purpose of making them look foolish. In 2016, he produced a racist segment mocking Asian Americans he “interviewed” in New York City’s Chinatown. After an uproar, he eventually apologised but said it had been intended to be “tongue-in-cheek.”

Fox News did not immediately return a request for comment on why ambushing me was fine, but ambushing Carlson was not.

Some advertisers are starting to distance themselves from both Tucker Carlson Tonight and Justice With Judge Jeanine following recent controversial remarks by both Carlson and Jeanine Pirro.

However, Fox News reiterated its support for both shows and hosts Wednesday morning as a protest, organized by liberal advocacy group Media Matters for America, kicked off outside Fox News headquarters in New York—the same time that Fox News is holding an upfront event for buyers.

Carlson has been under fire this week since controversial remarks concerning women he made nearly a decade ago were discovered by Media Matters, which has been parceling out additional audio segments all week.

Some advertisers have said they are pulling out of his program as a result, including Sheex bedding company, which was the show’s third largest advertiser, according to data from iSpot.tv.

At the same time, advertiser unrest is growing over Pirro’s Saturday night show after she claimed that Minnesota freshman congresswoman Ilhan Omar is “Sharia-compliant” and not loyal to the U.S. Constitution because she wears a hijab.

At least three advertisers—NerdWallet, Novo Nordisk and Letgo—are removing ads from Pirro’s show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Add Fox News Channel to the growing list of TV outlets preparing to roll out a direct-to-consumer streaming service within the next year.

Fox News announced this morning that it will launch Fox Nation, a streaming subscription service targeting the network’s “superfans,” during the fourth quarter.

This will be a separate experience from Fox News and would not replicate any programming that appears on the network, but it will feature many of Fox News’ biggest personalities and hosts.

In a release, Fox News said the service will “ take a deep dive into the big issues of the day with live exclusive daily streaming content and long-form programming available only to subscribers.” It will also include access to Fox News’ two decades of archival programming.

Fox Nation won’t feature ads—at least initially—and pricing information will be announced later.

“With our traditional cable viewership at an all-time high, we are proud to announce a new digital offering geared entirely toward the Fox News superfans, who represent the most loyal audience in cable, if not all of television,” said John Finley, svp of development and production for Fox News, in a statement.

Fox News reportedly made the "conscious decision" to refrain from tweeting following an activist group's protest that erupted at the home of Fox News opinion host, Tucker Carlson.

The news organization, which has over 18 million Twitter followers, had gone silent for more than 24 hours as of Friday.

Fox News sources reportedly told a Tribune Media employee the company is engaging in a silent protest due to Twitter's response to users who were posting Carlson's home address on the social media platform.

Around a dozen protesters aligned with the self-described anti-fascist group "Smash Racism DC" showed up at Carlson's home in Washington, DC, nearly two hours before the opinion-show host's 8 p.m. program on Fox News.

Police reportedly confirmed that members of the group also spray-painted an anarchy symbol on the driveway, and left signs on vehicles.

Another Fox News source cited by a Tribune Media content manager Scott Gustin reportedly said the decision not to tweet came from "the highest level" of the company.

As digital publishers scramble to put more video on their sites, broadcasters are busy figuring out how to get their visitors to log in.

On Friday, Fox News is expected to unveil an overhauled version of its website, its first major redesign in over five years.

The revamp is designed to push more notifications of live and breaking video news to readers, and above all, get visitors to log in to the site using their cable TV credentials.

Since then, video has become critically important to media companies, with some publishers, including its sister company Fox Sports, essentially turning their homepages into big walls of video.

Cable broadcasters like ESPN and CNN have tried to figure out how to get their readers to log in with their cable credentials, which would allow the companies to target their audiences across devices.

To nudge people in that direction, the new version of Fox News’ homepage has dedicated space in the top left corner to a live feed from Fox News’ cable broadcast.

Donald Trump was hoarse throughout an extended telephone interview on Fox News with Sean Hannity on Thursday, yet insisted he was feeling great.

At one point, Trump lost his voice while accusing former Vice President Joe Biden of “choking like a dog” during their debate last week:

He also struggled with his voice while discussing absentee ballots:

Although Trump tested positive for Covid-19 on October 1, he ducked a question about his testing and virus levels. Trump claimed he was in “great shape” and talked up his medication. He also said he wants to hold a campaign rally on Saturday:

At another point, Trump claimed Biden wants to tear down buildings and replace them with new buildings that have “tiny little windows, ok, little windows, so you can’t see out, you can’t see the light.”

Earlier on Thursday, Trump’s doctor issued a statement saying the president could resume “public engagements” by Saturday
