Blizzard just rolled out the patch notes for 2.5.0 for Diablo 3, and while they are adding a few welcome features to the game, they show just how dry the well is starting to run as well.

Positive changes include new tabs for materials to free up stash space, a quasi-buff to bounty rewards, and a new loadout armory system where players can save not just gear, but skills, socketed gems and even Kanai Cube powers to be able to switch easily between builds.

This is something every game in this genre desperately needs, and while it s good it s finally arrived in D3, the game has really needed it for years.

I ve already leveled a full set of max level alternate characters as build alternates because the switching process has been so cumbersome to date.

But the one addition in the patch that s managing to roll a lot of eyes in the yes-we re-still-playing-Diablo community is the addition of Primal Ancient Legendary weapons.

Right now, there current system in place has Legendary/set weapons/armor that drop with special properties and increased stats over normal items.

Chinese internet giant Baidu has reported net income of RMB 7.9bn ($1.2bn) for Q3 2017, a 156% increase year-on-year.

Baidu’s total revenues increased 29% to reach RMB 23.5bn ($3.5bn), driven by mobile revenues which accounted for 73% of total revenues up from 64% in Q3 2016.

Online marketing revenues were RMB 20.1bn ($3.02 bn), up 22% year on year, however, Baidu reported a 7% decrease in online marketing customers which totalled 486,000 for the quarter.

Baidu’s video platform iQIYI, which this year inked a licensing deal with Netflix, contributed to the company's increased content costs, with a rise in the cost of revenues up 16.6% to RMB 3.9 bn ($586m).

The company, which is increasingly investing in AI and technology development, including driverless cars and voice products, posted a 24% increase in research and development expenses, which amounted to 3.2 bn yuan ($487m)

Baidu is in the midst of transforming the company from a search and marketing business into a mobile-led, AI-driven technology company.

Chinese smartphone vendor Xiaomi’s rollercoaster ride took another positive turn in Q3 2017 with shipments increasing by 73% year-on-year.

The overall market is looking surprisingly buoyant, thanks mainly to the Jio-inspired rush to smartphones in the massive Indian market, which currently has much lower smartphone penetration than China and developed markets.

Strategy Analytics reckons the global smartphone market grew by 5% to 393 million units shipped in the quarter.

Among the vendors the biggest beneficiary of this growth seems once more to have been Xiaomi, which experienced is second quarter running of rampant growth.

The big Chinese vendors – Huawei, Oppo and Vivo all experienced double-digit growth, Samsung seems to have recovered its mojo after the trials of the past year or so and Apple put in a solid performance, considering loads of people are probably waiting to get hold of the iPhone X.

The big loser seems to be the long-tail as the global smartphone market increasingly consolidates itself around the top six vendors.

In his book Console Wars, Blake Harris reveals a mantra that video game industry insiders spouted in the ’80s: “the name of the game is the game.” Translation: If you don’t have awesome games on offer, there’s no point in trying.

It’s the reason why I haven’t bought a Nintendo Switch yet—I don’t think it has enough solid games.

It’s the same reason why I think the Nintendo New 2DS XL is worth a look for kids and adults alike.

Diablo creator David Brevik is finally ready to show off what he’s been working on for two years at his indie studio Graybeard Games.

It Lurks Below is a sandbox game that takes its cue from Re-Logic’s Terraria in both gameplay and style.

Two hundred players will have access to its closed beta from Friday to Monday evening, and Brevik plans to livestream himself playing the game at various times this weekend on his Twitch channel.

It mashes up gameplay from Terraria alongside Diablo mechanics.

Screenshots feature a retro pixel art aesthetic with characters wielding guns, defending homesteads, and fighting monsters in gold-studded mines.

Brevik created the iconic action role-playing game Diablo at his studio, Condor, which eventually became a part of Blizzard Entertainment and adopted the name Blizzard North.

It was first announced in 2014 and is being developed with Warner Bros.

In the post, Vu Bui, the company's COO and producer on the movie, also confirmed it would be released in both 3D and IMAX formats.

Rob McElhenney, the creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will helm the film.

The developer partnered with Telltale Games to release an episodic adventure game spin-off, Minecraft Story Mode, in October 2015.

Tapping into the loose lore of the sandbox game, it saw a group of friends battling against dark forces unleashed from the Nether, Minecraft's hellish underworld.

Adding a narrative to the traditionally freeform experience worked, too - originally planned for five chapters, Story Mode proved so popular, additional chapters were released.

Wandering around the Moon, shooting aliens in the head, picking up glowing engrams, harvesting helium filaments and completing patrols has proved immensely satisfying in a way that few other titles have managed.

Last week, I spent two days playing a near-complete version of Destiny 2, and while I will have to wait until closer to the game’s release to discuss much of what I saw – particularly the game’s story missions, briefly previewed in the open beta earlier this month – the core of Destiny 2 is already there for all to see, in the form of the European Dead Zone (EDZ), the first of four all-new areas in the game.

Whatever you intend to do in the EDZ, when you first arrive, you are deposited at one of a number of fast-travel points.

There are patrols (randomly generated micro-quests carried over from the previous game), “lost sectors” (small areas filled with enemies and a boss, hiding loot), high-value targets (random tough aliens who appear, run through the area then scarper) and public events (even tougher projects that’ll require several of you to band together to, say, destroy some alien miners or take out a tank), all present in the same basic way they were in the first game’s patrol mode.

But you’ll also be starting almost everything else from the ground as well, from story missions and NPC interactions to a whole new type of content, “adventures” – short, voice-acted missions which take place at a tangent to the main story, letting you explore the areas in greater detail and find out more about the characters you meet along the way.

One adventure in the EDZ, for instance, sees you helping Devrim Kay, a stiff-upper-lip sniper who hangs out in an abandoned church, and Suriyah Hawthorne, the resistance leader of new social space the Farm, by placing a radio beacon on top of a hill just outside town.

Developer Mojang will be partnering with an affiliate of NetEase, one of China's biggest internet content providers, to create a version of Minecraft tailored for the Chinese market.

The workload for localisation and translation is likely to be minimal, given Minecraft's scant use of text.

"We'll always embrace opportunities to bring Minecraft to new players around the world, widening our community, and giving us a new perspective on our game," said Jonas Martensson, CEO of Mojang, via statement on the company's blog.

Official figures from the China Internet Network Information Centre show the country had 368 million online gamers as of 2014, with 47.8 percent of them playing mobile games.

There are already servers for the game dedicated to the region, although these are unofficial, making NetEase's fully supported releases an enticing prospect.

Mojang is owned by Xbox One maker Microsoft, which released Minecraft: Xbox One edition in China in September 2015.

Final Fantasy XV continues to receive regular, impactful updates, so there's always something to go back to even if you long ago completed the main story.

If you thought that the heroes of Final Fantasy XV went into battle a little light on the armor side, especially considering their futuristic weaponry, then the 1.13 update will be right up your alley.

Not only does it add a new quest and bring back the Moogle Chocobo Carnival temporarily, but it adds powered exosuits to the game, dressing up the protagonists like the hero from the Crysis games.

If you have loosely followed the development of Final Fantasy XV post-release, you may vaguely remember that exosuits were supposed to be added to the game several months ago.

What you may not have heard is that a legal scuffle erupted over their similarity to the suits in the 2017 Power Rangers movie, DualShockers reports.

Ditching the colors and tweaking the design seems to have sorted that out, so now we have Noctis and pals dressed ready for battle.

There’s no point denying it: Lego Worlds is effectively Lego Minecraft.

While far from a direct clone, it’s certainly a take on Mojang’s classic, with those chunky blocks and pixelated textures replaced by shiny plastic Lego bricks.

Complete these and you’re rewarded with gold bricks which can be used to repair and refuel your spaceship and get you as far as the next world.

Amass 10 gold bricks and more planets open up – fantasy worlds with tunnels, trolls and archers, a junkyard world with towers of broken cars where zombie teens attack snack-obsessed construction workers.

Reach 25 and even larger worlds unlock, complete with multiple environments so that an arctic zone blends into rocky crags or savannah and jungle zones surround a bustling Lego town.

The Minecraft film, based on the massively popular video game franchise, will be released on 24 May 2019, according to the game s developer, Mojang.

The lengthy wait has been defended by Mojang as the right amount of time to make it completely awesome .

Since its release in November 2011, it has become the second-bestselling game of all time behind Tetris and, thanks to a interface that allows players to build pretty much anything they want, has been adopted as a teaching aid.

The plot of the Minecraft film is still unknown, although in July last year Mojang hired It s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob McElhenney as director.

Apple s October event was most known for the introduction of the 2016 MacBook Pro with its new Touch Bar input device.

As usual at such events, however, Apple rolled out some other, lesser products and announced some things coming from partners and even competitors.

One of the latter announcements was that Microsoft would be releasing Minecraft for Apple TV.

Apple indicated Microsoft s popular open-world sandbox game would make it to its media server by the end of 2016, and Microsoft made that promise real on Monday, MSPU reports.

Minecraft runs on a host of different platforms, from PCs to Xbox One to smartphones, and it is used for fun by millions of players, as a business endeavor by YouTube celebrities, and as an educational tool by teachers and institutions around the world.

Minecraft allows for open exploration of a massive world and the ability to recreate real-world sites and technologies inside of the game.

Security researchers say they've found a way to exploit Intel's accident-prone Management Engine, and will reveal the problem at Black Hat Europe in December.

Positive Technologies researchers say the exploit “allows an attacker of the machine to run unsigned code in the Platform Controller Hub on any motherboard via Skylake+”.

Intel Management Engine (ME), a microcontroller that handles much of the communication between the processor and external devices, hit the headlines in May 2017 due to a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/05/01/intel_amt_me_vulnerability/">security concerns regarding the Active Management Technology (AMT) that runs on top of the engine.

It later emerged that AMT had a simple authentication error: an attacker could login with an empty password field.

For those whose vendors haven't pushed a firmware patch for AMT, in August Positive Technologies discovered how to switch off Management Engine.

El Reg expects a lot of users who skipped the ME “kill switch” in the last month are about to have a change of mind, once they read this abstract ahead of Black Hat Europe.

The hit sandbox game Minecraft is a pretty big deal on mobile devices, and it s long been a top-selling title on Android and iOS.

The game is developed by Mojang which is owned by Microsoft, making it a natural fit for Windows Phone devices, or at least that s what you d probably think.

Apparently that s not the case, as Windows Central is reporting that the Windows Phone version of Minecraft Pocket Edition is now essentially dead in the water, and will no longer receive updates or patches.

According to unnamed sources, the game gets so little playtime from those who own the app on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 mobile devices that it doesn t pay for the company to continue spending time on it.

However, even though the game will no longer be updated, it will remain for sale on the Windows Phone app marketplace.

It s not a huge blow to Windows Phone as a whole, but it s certainly a symptom of the platform s larger problem, which is a relatively small user base and overall lack of app support from developers.
